hmm well a family member recently opened a tesco clubcard credit card account with them and on the control panel there was nothing to allow you to stop them. we had to call in and their operator confirmed only tesco can edit this.

I have search tesco clubcard credit card control panel and cannot find the text you posted please show me where it is

If you know different please tell me where on the control panel this can be done please
The text I quoted was from the privacy policy section. When you are on the tesco clubcard credit account website their is a link to their privacy policy, click on that and it takes you to a page explaining how they use it and how to opt out.

You do know that you may be "shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted" in that if you are being contacted by a third party then they already have your info. Tesco do seem to assume you are okay with marketing unless you opt out, and probably don't spell this out when you sign up. You can write in or email to them if you don't want to phone. So opting out may mean they only sop giving it out to TP now.

How sure are you that the email was from data provided by Tesco, since if it was from outside the EU area, Tesco as data controller would need to ensure that data was safe for a processor outside the EU.

The support team from the company told me how my email arrives to them from Tesco and they auto send to me. Tesco also confirmed this is how it worked.

I was told and confirmed by tesco that the company who emailled me must store my data on a server in a safe EU harbour. and not on an amazon server in the USA.

I'm telling you what Tesco told me.

I also told Tesco that I was unhappy with a company they pass my data to talking on the telephone to me about how Tesco and they interact with each other.
This was a potential security risk.

The company did not question me my identity or call me back they were also unaware that the some of the links in their email to me where not working and at one point refused to accept this till i emailed them a screen grab of one of their 404 pages.

So the company gave out information about their system.
They were unaware some of their system wasn't working.

If I was Tesco i would have dumped them just for that never mind the server location issue.

Well that's one reason the GDPR is coming in as companies will bandy around your data and there may be many copies, leading to potential security risks.

So was this company working for Tesco, e.g. Tesco had outsourced your info so that they could find out your customer experience? Not sure they would need to call you back, and by not questioning your identity, do you mean not completing a Data Protection check, or do you mean they didn't question who you were to your satisfaction. Did they reveal any personal data about you on the call? If they simply confirmed your name and asking about your experience but not revealing anything specific about your account, then that wouldn't be wrong - its only if they revealed stuff without clarifying you were to their satisfaction.

    Thanks for this
i must be really dim because i cannot find the text you quoted. Would you kindly find it on your system and post a link to it please. It will be an important link to me because Tesco have confirmed to me I am unable to opt out by myself without telephoning in. If their website say otherwise then clearly this is incorrect.

Just logged on to my Credit Card account control panel and cannot find anywhere to disable marketing information. Your link will be of great assistance to me

    Re the none EU Servers...
When i called to companies Uk office they said Tesco send my information to their head office in the USA.

I asked there question are the server located in the USA to which the answer was yes.

I called them a few days later and had another chat with questions and they answered everything I asked.

Their problem was I am not their customer.
    Their customer is Tesco.
They should have referred me to Tesco.

They should not have been discussing Tescos business with them to me.

I answered some of this in a previous post.

When i called them my telephone number was hidden and I emailed them screen grabs with a none specific email name different to the email tesco hold.

I don't recall them specifically revealing on the phone anything about my account. They did tell me about their company and where the servers were and how the data comes from Tesco. However it begs the question is my personal data (name and email address ) safe with them on their none eu safe harbour servers ? Especially when they cannot handle simple security and follow procedure on a telephone call.

One thing i like about Tesco Credit Card is that you can set your own test message greeting like a personal password of your choice to assist you in knowing a genuine text from Tesco. So you would get a text message to, for example "chucklefan" or "atomicduck" etc. You choose your own greeting which can even be a profanity cos you are the only one to know it.

Today i opened a John Lewis Partnership Credit Card. I did my homework and chose to visit the store. All went well and I left the store with the card and pin number. All i needed was a Debit card with signature on the back. Comparing to Tesco a few slight differences. To setup direct debit i have to sign a mandate and send in whereas with Tesco you can do it using the online control panel. The cashback is 1 John Lewis point per £2 spent in Tesco against using Waitrose credit card against 1 Tesco clubcard point per £4 using Tesco credit card. So if i buy in Tescos it's to my advantage to use the clubcard to get points and pay with Waitrose credit card instead of Tesco clubcard credit card.

They issued you the card and PIN in store?

Why do I get the feeling you deliberately opened this up in store so later on you can do another one of your famous complaints and blame being misinformed by the staff member instore??
