Tesco Clubcard Credit Card I'm unable to stop marketing emails.
To stop getting emails from market research companies with links to their "non Tesco" website. I have to telephone and ask the Tesco Operator to remove permission.

Is this a marketing ploy ?

Why when i have so much control about payment direct debit and alerts I am unable to stop marketing emails and contacts in the control panel?
You don't have to phone them, maybe it just hasn't jumped out at you. From their website on their privacy policy:
This section explains the choices you have when it comes to receiving marketing communications and taking part in market research.

We will send you relevant offers and news about our products and services in a number of ways including by email, but only if you have previously agreed to receive these marketing communications. When you register with us we will ask if you would like to receive marketing communications, and you can change your marketing choices online, over the phone or in writing at any time.
So don't phone, do it online, or even write in!

Yes OP I get what you are saying.

I agree you should be able to do online and not have to phone them up.

Does sound like a marketing ploy as it is far easier to click on a link than physically make a call and they know that.
Thank you for your reply
In October 2017 received emails from Servicetick a market research company who had been passed my email by Tesco. It was a click on this link email.

After some investigation and although not fully conclusive it appeared that they may be using servers outside of a safe EU harbour.

On testing the link the and running the survey it didn't complete so I took screen grabs etc.

I followed serviceticks support system and communicated with their support people. I noted their resposes which concerned me

I discovered then that I was unable to stop or edit this kind of marketing response in the Tesco control panel.

Unhappy with serviceticks response, their application, I contacted Tesco asked them to stop marketing responses and sent them screen grabs of the market research application and my concerns about the location of their servers.

Tesco were good they thanked me and in a further response about 10 days later told me they no longer use servicetick.

Recently a relative who has a Santander 123 account was informed that their Tesco saver wiill stop using direct debits and to continue getting interest triggered they decided to open a a Tesco credit card which will initiate a direct debit to settle the account each month.

After one purchase on the day the card went live they received a market research request via tesco from
surveys@nunwood.com.

Hello XXXXX
Thank you for choosing Tesco Bank for your Credit Card.
You recently visited the Tesco Bank website and we would love to hear about your experience.
The survey will take around 5 minutes to complete and your feedback will help us find out and improve what matters most to our customers.
Your responses will be held in strict confidence and we won't ask you for any of your customer details or personal information.

On checking the Tesco credit card control panel marketing preferences cannot be edited without telephoning Tesco.
Ironically my relatives other DD was originally set up with a 2 year time period. When it ended they discovered a glitch in the Santander 123 direct debit process.

Delete the email job done, couldnt be even simpler, even simpler than phoning Santander to find out if the text from them is genuine.

That's not a marketing email and therefore would be unaffected by the marketing preferences that were chosen.

That is an option ..
but i prefer to stop when i can being pestered by unwanted emails in the process of doing business with companies.

In fact it appeared that every time i telephoned communicated with Tesco CC or made a payment the market research company sent me an email.

I got the impression that the evidence i presented to Tesco about this company was very helpful to them.

It is sad that I seem unable to edit these preferences myself and that Tesco have simply chosen a different company.

You make a good point but the only way I could stop them was by a asking Tesco telephone operator stopping marketing information.
That is the way Tesco stop them

I hope you take this the right way but you really need to get out more. The email has no negative effect on your life, you can just delete it as everyone else does. It's sunny why don't you just go for a walk and try and forget about Aldi not accepting credit cards, Santander sending you a text or Tesco sending you an email. Even better would perhaps not owning a credit card.

Thank you. You are right I need to get out more.
Being on this forum maybe I'm associating with some of the wrong crowd and this could be one of the reasons my parents would not let me attend those youth clubs in the 1960's.

I agree these emails did not have a negative effect on my life they had a positive effect see below. Emails can be very very powerful if used correctly.

Correct me if I am wrong but this site is all about claiming and holding companies to account.

Going or a walk ? have you seen the price of shoe leather these days LOL

Thank you for reminding me about Aldi.
Can you imagine being told by a director of Aldi that their policy is strict and that they do not accept credit cards in any store in England under any circumstances ?

Can you imagine getting an apology from them when I pointed out to them an Aldi store in England that accepted credit cards ? LOLOL

Can you imagine being told by experts on this forum that Aldi do not issue Gift Vouchers ? Only to receive and display an Aldi gift voucher ? LOLOL

The emails from the Tesco Market research company was initially mishandled by Tesco. Using advice from this website I contacted The CEO of Tesco and The Financial Ombudsman. Tesco to their credit responded very well and I came to an agreement with them and did not make an adjudication with the F.O and the complaint ended. However something, and not me, triggered a communication to me from the Financial Conduct Authority and I was happy to give them my findings on the situation.

I think owning and using a Credit Card is an excellent idea and if used in conjunction with the advice on this website can only benefit the user. LOLOL
