agreed, one day email response from the council - unless it's to a named person's work email address and they're in the office - is almost unheard of here, and our council seems relatively responsive to email correspondence

Are you with T Mobile- they charge for text to Guersney. Some of Somerset council pages do state normal text rats except T Mobile.

    Okay.

Have a google of council and 07781. You'll find a number of councils using 07781 numbers - including some for bidding for homes.

Genuine question. Do you not think that if they were charging extortionate rates there might have been an outcry by now?

Have you checked what you actually get charged for sending a TEXT to the SPECIFIC number in question? I think all we know so far is that CALLS to 07781 numbers are charged at 48p a minute by Three. Is the number advertised as a voice number or just for text messages?

Contact Three customer services and ask (or send a text and check your account online).

If you go on online chat with Three and ask them for the access code for 07781 numbers - or say you want to call or text Guernsey - they will give you a code which you add to the front of the 07781 number.

You will then be charged at your normal rates when you se that code.

I tried - but the operative wouldn't give me an access code
Three's price guide confirms that 07781 is a BAND O international number
and is NOT included in an allowance
So - why should Three lose money ?
I am not blaming Three - I am blaming these stupid councils !
I wonder whether they get a cut of the call profits ?

As you said in your opening post and I reiterated a couple of days ago, it's a number to *text* the council so the *call* charges are irrelevant. Have you found out how much it costs to send a text message to the specific number?

    40p per txt
And it is the same in Vodafone and Three and others as well - why would they do this- unless they receive a cut from the provider ?
