SF's road to MF/FIRE: Part I

Sunday, August 19th.
I'm in the middle of cooking a roast dinner and have a five minute window of peace, so I thought I would update on hereI love a roast chicken dinner and I'm doing it so it'll be totally syn free on sw too, so bonus. DH and DS1 are having yorkshires with it but I am resisting.
I am so ready for it to be winter now. I am definitely a colder months person. I cannot wait to wear leggings and big, snuggly jumpers and be all cosy at home with my boys. I know that means being at work too, but so be it.
DH goes back to work tomorrow after having some paternity leave and I am not ready for him to go back. I haven't been on my own with the two boys for weeks now and am a little nervousI think I'll have to go somewhere with them at some point so that the older one can burn off a bit of energy and so we get out of the house. I'm really bad at staying at home within the safety of our four walls.
Money wise, it'll be nice to finally have some more money coming in. DH is only on statutory maternity pay and our bank account definitely shows this. By the end of August, once I've been paid a proper amount and so will DH, it'll look a lot more healthy.
Nothing much else to report, at the momentI suppose I should be thankful for that!

I should have done this a while ago really, but I went to the doctors recently and have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I wasn't actually surprised, in fact slightly relieved. It's the worrying, obsessing over every little thing which is taking over my life. Hopefully this will help me get a hold on things.
Finances wise, we continue to plod along. As our mortgage rate follows the base rate, our interest has gone up slightly, which means more is added each month. I'm tempted to go back to bigger overpayments. Although I'm still wanting to retire early, the amount we pay in interest on our mortgage is just over £180 a month. That's a big chunk. It's definitely something I'm mulling over.
In terms of the extension, we're still waiting to hear if we've got planning permission or not. I really, really hope we do.
Nothing much else to report. Very much taking each day as it comes at the moment. Enjoying the time with my beautiful boys. They're the only things that make me happy at the moment. They are so wonderful.Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

For the first time in ages, I have updated my finances spreadsheets and got everything up to date. I've been putting it off but have sat this evening and worked everything out. I have also sat and added up all of our DDs and SOs to see what they add up to each month, as a couple of them have changed recently. I feel more in control.
But, there are still things that I feel we're not doing enough on. I want to OP more than we are doing, but I also want to keep saving for our bigger dream and get the passive income stream continuing to build. It's so tough; I wish we earned more income as a family, but then I'm choosing to work part time whilst the boys are young so I can spend time with them. It's such a tough balance!
Everything else, just plodding along, sleep deprived. Frugal Baby has been ill for the past 5 weeks with a cold/chest infection/bronchitis. It's been tough and he's so miserable. Keep taking him back to the doctors but as he's still so little, there's not a lot they can give him and just need to wait it out. Easy for them to say!Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

It's really hard slowlyfading, and I think I am with you, the focus of diligently Tilly Tidying and updating my budgets and spreadsheets has been the single biggest contribution to us clearing all debts except the mortgage, and making sure we can stop work earlier than SPA.
I read your blog this morning. It is so hard when the little ones seem to be going from one infection to the next. As a teacher you must have that thing where each year's new intake arrive with low immunity to each other and share their germs generously until the all settle down before Easter. My DH has that in his Senior School with all the Year 7s. I think this is your Toddler's first Autumn/Winter at Nursery. Then of course a snivelly nose is nature's way for each of us to repel Autumn moulds, fungus and spores from entering our bodies and causing us harm. I have always suffered with chronic Rhinitis at this time of yearSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £9586.01 out of £6000 after August (158.45%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £2135.07/£3000 or 71.17% of my annual spend so far
