I have just started this thread for anyone who is hoping to get in before Christmas.
I am in a chain of three with me in the middle. Our purchase is ready to go although our vendors want 3-4 weeks in between exchange and completion.
Our sale is going less well and just seems to be dragging. I am going to phone up today to see where abouts they are.

How long has the process been for you so far?
Me and my partner are first time buyers, we agreed a sale on a house two weeks ago, we have filled in all the forms for the solicitors and they should have them today and the survey was done on the house we are purchasing last Friday. We are yet to hear of the findings but we are pretty sure that nothing major is going to come up on it.
The lady who we are buying the house from already has somewhere to go and has said she would like to be out by Xmas, this is ideal as we would like to be in by then as well.
Currently we are aiming for round about 10th December to be in.I :heart2: saving money0 -
We've got an offer in on a house we've (stupidly) fallen in love with. Ours has been on the market 4 weeks but with no interest so far, despite a 8% price reduction - houses on my street normally fly off the shelf, so to speak, but the market round here is completely dead.
The vendor of the house we love knows all this but keeps saying that he hopes we can all have moved by Christmas
Good luck to everyone wanting to have a very merry, all-moved Christmas :xmassmile↑ Things I wouldn't say to your face

*crosses fingers*
we put an offer in 2 weeks ago today, we got the mortgage 1 week ago today and the mortgage company are doing their valuation tomorrow. We have been told we will hear back from teh mortgage company by Friday at which point we will give the go-ahead for a building survey and searches to be done. Vendor wants to be completed by 30th Nov. *fingers crossed*0 -
We had the results from our survey last Thursday. Showed up some damp which they are looking at this week. I'm hoping this isn't going to delay things too much if at all.
Is there no-one else buying at the moment?are we the only daft ones

*update* My solicitors haven't got a copy of the lease for the place i am selling, so are trying to find a copy. The people i am buying off don't have any documents to say they have planning permission for the workshop in the garden.
still hoping0 -
The mortgage valuation went fine and we have the money! We are waiting for our building survey to be done tomorrow before we order the searches but we are still on time for the 30th November at the moment.
Probably jinxing the whole thing by going new bed shopping this evening.0 -

I remember being in this race last year from October onwards - unfortunately we didn't win - turned out 15th Jan for the move in date
Looking forward to the first xmas in our new house though
Good luck0 -
Why would people want 3-4 weeks between exchange and completion.0

My partner and I are also pushing our house sale as we too want to be in before Christmas. Our mortgage has been approved and the sale of my flat is down to complete on the 8th (it was due yesterday except that the searches only came back in the morning!).
I guess that the only thing on everyones favour is that (according to the national press) mortgages and house sales seem to be at the lowest since 2005 - suits me though!
My sols does appear to be very slow though (they handled the sale of my flat too) at times its like i'm using Messrs. Barney, Rubble and Co. Stone Age Solicitors!!!0 -
Just waiting for contract exchange on our property, somone in the chain is deliberately being very slow for some reason. Talk is of completion on 8 November but I am not holidng my breath. I hope they don't think they can exchange the day before completion because I refuse to pack until contracts are exchanged and it will take at least 2-3 days to pack and move everything plus I need to get time off work.We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0
