Bank negligence, police involved
Comments

This is a strange thread but not caused by the OP, Lulumu.
The responses from many of the MSE regulars have been rather unsympathetic and in some cases very hostile. I cannot see anything in Lulumu's posts that would warrant these responses.
As to the original question, I have not had any experience of this issue. However, I would be inclined to follow the advice of the police as the bank may not have your best interests at heart.
I'm intrigued as to why the police are so keen when their standard response is to refer to Action Fraud.
I'm intrigued as to why the OP goes rushing to a nearby branch when the transaction presumably took place 250 miles away.
I'm amazed a fraud department doesn't take a withdrawal on an account in dispute seriously.
I'm frustrated when posters that you are trying to help give incomplete answers to questions or don't answer that at all.
There's more in the thread that doesn't seem to add up. It's not an impossible story, but throws up numerous doubts that the OP hasn't explained.0 -
We have a one day account with YBS for our son. I opened it when he was one year old (it was called something different back then) and as soon as was reasonably possible, I put the wife on the account. We are trustees of the account and it does, indeed, have a passbook. My son is 18 now, but he wants us to stay as trustees until he is 21 as he gets a good rate of interest.
However, we gave instructions that either one of us could sign for a withdrawal, it worked better that way for us. On the few occasions I have had the need to withdraw money, the cashier has always checked the screen to make sure that withdrawals can be made with just one signature and, on one occasion, asked me for ID even though I had the passbook. I'm not sure they'd refuse me if two signatures were needed and I spun them a yarn, but I've got a feeling they would.
Just my experience.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0 -

I can. Starting off with comments such as "...banks negligence is astounding. My branch manager is hopeless...", progressing to "absolute !!!!", when the root of all this, if indeed it is true, is a dysfunctional family.0 -
Yet the first place they run to is the hopeless branch manager who's branch hasn't even made the transaction.I can. Starting off with comments such as "...banks negligence is astounding. My branch manager is hopeless...", progressing to "absolute !!!!", when the root of all this, if indeed it is true, is a dysfunctional family.
When you're already on the phone to the bank so easily placed to dispute the withdrawals.0 -

Unsympathetic for good reason.
Doesn't sound real to me but some of the details leads me to that conclusion.0 -

Fascinating to see what the OP is accused of.I can. Starting off with comments such as "...banks negligence is astounding. My branch manager is hopeless...", progressing to "absolute !!!!", when the root of all this, if indeed it is true, is a dysfunctional family.
1. Describing a branch manager as hopeless.
2. Suggesting a bank's negligence is astounding.
3. Being part of a disfunctional family.
4. Describing another user or their disparaging comments as absolute !!!!
Heinous crimes indeed and absolutely justifying the hostile responses from several long standing MSE users.
But wait; is it possible that the OP is genuine and going through an awful series of events and may even be becoming emotional as a result?0 -

Being part of a dysfunctional family does not make every member of that family dysfunctional. They're not accusations, they're facts. Apart from number 3, that's my own judgement that defrauding family members is dysfunctional, you're obviously of the view that it's normal.
Yes the facts are that the OP did indeed make these comments. That is not in dispute. My point is that these other three comments are quite common and in my opinion do not justify the response. There appears to be a mob mentality on this forum and I find it rather offensive.
The OP does not deserve this. And this is my last post on the thread so please feel free to respond but I will not.0 -
The OP lit the blue touch paper and then retired,The OP does not deserve this.
You were very late to the party and are obviously unaware that posts have been deleted on this thread.
I still suspect this thread is not genuine and nothing you have said leads me to any other conclusion..0
