Credit check for second Halifax card?

I've recently been accepted for a second Lloyds card, and they don't appear to have done a search. Can I expect the same thing with Halifax, whose systems seem identical?

Both of these banks say you can redistribute credit limits between cards to a maximum of 90% of the limit of the card that you're moving it from. Does anyone know (cue "Why don't you ask them?") whether you can close one card and move the entire limit to the remaining card? To me that would be an attractive alternative to "swapping" for a new card, which can only be done by phone.

When redistributing the limits, you will be asked to leave a minimum of £500 on one of the cards - if you then close that account you may not be able to increase the other card any further (there's no guarantees) so you may end up being £500 down on the existing limits when both cards are open.

Usually they dont credit check as they use internal checks, you can ask for limit to be redistributed

From what I remember when I did this with Halifax they said I couldn't close the account for about a month from the redistributing of credit limits
  • I applied for a Clarity, a couple of months ago. Got it. They didn't do a credit search.

I didn't have a credit card with them, at that point, only a bank account.

You can apply for a second credit card online (phone or branch). However, redistributing credit limits can only be done through the phone.
