  • Hi BusyMee sorry to hear about your step-father and many congratulations on your retirement.

I was a Trustee until recently (we just wound it up because of change in circumstances). Barclays still offers a high street Trust account service most of the other banks don’t now. There legacy department can help; we have been able to do most things in our local branch.

However, I wasn’t very impressed with the service; there was a lack of flexibility to manage the money efficiently (terrible interest rate etc) and it took us 3-months to close the account because the bank lost our first set of paperwork, then some signatures didn’t match on their system. Everything was paper based so really slow and inefficient. However as the amount in Trust was relatively modest 150k, we didn’t have a great deal of choice. Best wishes CM

    Just this really...🎉🎉🎊🎊🥂🍾

I am so pleased for you. I know, know, know you won't regret it 🎉🎉🍾🥂🎊🎊 - and of course, I am biased but boys are easier than girls.

I don't know anything about trust funds but I might need to so please post what you find.

BTW, if you have anything in a Skipton BS account they are offering a 3.5% RS for existing customers

    Condolences on your step dad.

    Hope your father recovers quickly.

Congrats on the grandson on the way news.

Glad you weren't have to juggle work on the top of all that.

  • I'm just sneaking back in quietly. It has been a while.....
Life has been really busy. I've been retired for eight weeks and only at home for four of those weeks.

We've been mainly away sorting my Dad out.  It is a fairly shocking tale of a broken NHS and a social care system in crisis. However, I think we are now getting there. It has been incredibly stressful and I am just glad I didn't have to go to work too.

The finances haven't featured high on my priority list. In fact I should find a Money Spending Expert forum, because there has been no money saving at all. That needs to change. I received my first pension payment today and will be tracking our expenditure through October. We need to get a grip, we have been spending money like we are on a permanent holiday 😬

DD is keeping really well and pregnancy suits her. I have obviously been buying lots of baby related things 🥰

I've managed to lose 7lb since I retired. I did the Fast 800 diet for 16 days for a wedding and am hoping to keep it off. I haven't upped my exercise regime though....still not enough time.

I think that is all. I need to get to posting and focusing more on the finance 😊
  • Good to hear from you. My sympathies re your Dad. From what I recall he is not round the corner so that adds to the stress. We are hoping to go and see my Mum for the first time in just under two years the week after next

Good as you say that you weren't juggling looking after your Dad and a job. Glad your DD's pregnancy is going well.

Good to get back on the MSE wagon - but you have been so good for so long - not surprising if you had a bit of a blow out with everything you had going on.
