I’m back. It has been a while but my excuse is we have been caught up mixture of real life stuff and also I have been locked out of my account since the forum changes. I still can’t log into the forum using my iPad but I have just discovered I can get in using my phone.
So an update. My Dad has been discharged from hospital. He is OKish for an 84 year old man with multiple serious health issues. We have a new care package in place and that seems to be working well.We just got one sorted and then another (Step Dad) was rushed into hospital. He won’t be going home, He is being discharged to a care home.
Work has been ridiculously busy. No departure lounge for me, although they have finally recruited my replacement, so I can now start my handover. Retirement is starting to feel real now.
The big lovely news is that I am having to repurpose the odds and sods account from a wedding dress to a pram ! DD is having a baby in the New Year. Excited moi ? She is really well and taking pregnancy in her stride. The timing is perfect given I will be retired and available for Granny duties. The wedding has been postponed to 2023, which is probably as well as they were struggling to get a venue for 2022 given all the postponed weddings from Covid. In financial news the IO mortgage is down to £144k and will be down to £140k by the time I get my final salary. My Civil Service pension details have arrived and they are as expected. Not sure why I doubted myself haha. I just need to decide how much lump sum I want to take versus pension.
I think that is all the news. Sorry for the absence, but I will try and catch up on everyone else’s diaries this week x7 -

Many congratulations to all!
As your end date approaches, I thought I would just pass on a tiny bit of insight. I finished on a Monday (so I was paid for the weekend) which should be irrelevant but it also meant my retirement date was the 4th - so my pension is paid on the 4th, whereas lots of my bills go out at the end of the month or on the first working day - so I always have to keep a credit cushion in the bills account. Just something to be aware of. I have moved things like utility and credit cards but not council tax and three others because I can't. Hopefully this is helpful to knowSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

I had a similar problem when I moved to being a contractor. I had been paid on the same date each month for years and now I have variable pay dates depending on my contract. I pay myself out of my income buffer on my old pay date each month and refill the buffer when I do get paid. Many of my bills were geared to my old fixed pay date. It's a bit like YNAB living on last months paycheck idea (only by accident).MortgageStart Nov 2012 £310,000
