I've got an old 3 SIM contract on my credit file that was taken out in 2003 and still reports to my credit files every month. It doesn't cost me anything as it's the old 3ToGo tariff with no monthly service charge, just calls.
Will this be looking favorably on my credit files or would they actually improve if I cancelled it?

Just leave it as it is.
No lender is going to make a decision based on a free SIM card.0 -
It's a SIM contract not a freebie SIM card.0

Funny. If you don't have a constructive answer then don't reply at all.

I'm sure I'll be corrected if not, but as I understand it, the main things that lenders will look at is:
1. Your available credit
2. Your use of that credit
3. Whether you pay your bills on time
4. Outstanding debt
I'm guessing that your available credit will be considered to be minimal on a SIM contract, and with no bills, no debt and no history of abusing the credit, I'd imagine that there would be little negative impact on your "credit score", and that lenders would probably see the trail of a positive (if minimal) credit history to be a good thing.
But I doubt it makes a huge amount of difference, if any.0 -
This will demonstrate a lengthy relationship.
What are you looking to improve your files for? If it's a mortgage then a SIM contract is unlikely to be considered unless you have numerous late/missed payments.
If it's the only thing on your credit file then you may struggle to get credit given that you have no real evidence of managing credit.
If you tell us your objective along with any other comittments being reported to your credit files, we will be able to provide more context to the replies.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards. Positive factors: Account age 15 years. Another account reporting 0 status each month. Balance reported is presumably nil?
Negative factors. None.
Leave things alone.0
