Yeah as i've noticed - i get the feeling something will have to give, the big hotels seem to be pretty much out there on their own...... perhaps side is a good compromise to location.

This will be our first holiday in the country, maybe we won't enjoy the large hotel as we think we might, but like the country so return again on our more usual 2-3* accomodation on b&b basis.

Thing is we have been a bit naive in that when we used to holiday in Rhodes we once took a day trip to marmaris and the experience we had in that one day really put us off... from seeing pickpockets at work, to being chucked out of a shop for not saying i was turkish or greek! But that's behind us and want to see other areas.. perhaps that's again a reason for us to choose the large complex we've always wanted to try to give us some security and to restore our faith back in the country.

That’s why I like the big all inclusive hotels in countries where “hassle”
    & it does in Turkey.
So you go to a big 5 star AI hotel and you go out for trips and things you want to do.
But you won’t have to run the gauntlet of hassle 3 times a day as you would if you went self catering and were going out for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Weather will be fine. Side wouldn't be my first choice in Turkey.

That's the way we have looked at it, at least for the 1st year. Looking forward to staying in a 5*, be a first for us.

The only place I have felt hassled was in the Medina in Sousse. That was scary - DH did get into a tussle trying to get us both out of a shop

But it never stopped me going back :)

Never felt hassled in Turkey. Yes it can be a bit full on, esp the first two days when you arrive lily white and its obvious its the start of your holiday and you have a wallet full of cash needing spending. Last time I was in Icemelar they had a no hassle policy where the guys from the restaurants weren't allowed onto the foot paths to ask you in, and in Kalkan and Hisaranou Ive never been aware of it

But other peoples milage will vary thats true :)

Whatever, you will LOVE Turkey. Just don't stay in resort - get out and about. The people are the most friendliest and hospitable people Ive ever met. We have made many friends over the years and I miss being able to visit as we once did ( every few months )

You obviously went in at the main entrance, where for the first couple of hundred yards it's all touristy stuff, and punters are at the mercy of the hasslers. Follow the perimeter wall round to the right, up the hill, turn left and enter there by the Police Station. No hassle, and some very nice welcoming places for a drink and bit to eat.

If you thought that Souse Medina was bad, then you want to try the main entrance at the Medina in Tunis. But the solution is the same, simply follow the perimeter wall round to the right for a few hundred yards and go in there. Very interesting place too.

Yes, it was our first ever time to Tunisa and we did say the last, but we have been back ( last time was the Royal Kenz, the same bit of beach where the shootings were ) and Im hoping to return now its reopened so to speak

This is the only thing I miss about leaving London, the flight choice. International airport is sadly lacking with no scheduled flights to most destinations and we have to rely on the Holiday season and chartered flights for any kind of deal for anywhere as "exotic" as Tunisia

Just got back, had the most amazing holiday to Marmaris, Ideal Prime beach Hotel, quite quiet, no problems, I went out walking on my own, OH stayed on the beach, felt safe at all times, never hassled or bothered. Did a couple of day trips which were great. Would imagine fairly busy in high season though.

We've just booked with Balkan holidays to Bulgaria...ai after years of diy holidays . Decided to go for 4 star and and larger site so there are more dining options. I chose Bulgaria over Turkey due to heat and shorter transfers but not sure how good as not been yet!

An apartment by Lake Ohrid in Macedonia?

You don't need AI, dozens of quality vfm places to eat and drink, and nobody hassling or hustling you.

Our favourite afternoon spot is the Dublin Irish Bar on the promenade. Apart from the decor there's little Irish about food, it's simply v.friendly and inexpensive...

    Loads of similar places.
