Can I suggest Dalaman area for short ( 30 minutes) transfer times. Sarigerme has a lovely beach and the sort of large resort style hotels you are looking for.

just booked a last minute with Thomas Cook, 1 week AI, going in 2 weeks, £585 for two of us, never been to Turkey so a bit nervous, but Thomas Cook did us a great deal, even meals of the flights and extra weight for luggage included

Thank you so much, just looking at the Hilton there, looks very nice but need to research the area more - thank you again as would never have known about this place - the transfer time is a massive plus.

Yeah as i've noticed - i get the feeling something will have to give, the big hotels seem to be pretty much out there on their own...... perhaps side is a good compromise to location.

This will be our first holiday in the country, maybe we won't enjoy the large hotel as we think we might, but like the country so return again on our more usual 2-3* accomodation on b&b basis.

Thing is we have been a bit naive in that when we used to holiday in Rhodes we once took a day trip to marmaris and the experience we had in that one day really put us off... from seeing pickpockets at work, to being chucked out of a shop for not saying i was turkish or greek! But that's behind us and want to see other areas.. perhaps that's again a reason for us to choose the large complex we've always wanted to try to give us some security and to restore our faith back in the country.

You know, I really wouldn't be bothered with the big hotel idea. As you are finding out, in Turkey they are built in areas where there is nothing else, and I mean nothing else, you need a taxi to go anywhere

Fethiye is really worth a look at again

Just up the road is Hisaranou where you can go paragliding of Babadag mountain and down the other side is Oludeniz and its beautiful lagoon

Head the other way and you have Dalyan, mud baths and tombs and the famous river where African Queen was filmed

Also theres fantastic day trips out to a beautiful gorge and lunch at a trout fishery

IMHO you are wasted booking a big complex hotel in Turkey. Somewhere like Tunisa I can see the point, but there is history and culture at every turn in Turkey - go see and experience it

If you can get away from the idea of a big resort hotel then I would totally recommend Dalyan. Very laid back, beautiful scenery, lots to do. It is not at all like Marmaris/Bodrum etc. Most people who try it fall in love with it.

No, i'm afraid we've talked and we're going ahead with a large hotel complex this time - if we don't try it now we never will.

But moving on, another thought has entered, does anyone think it will be too hot for last week june & 1st week July - i mean too hot to be outside in the afternoon sun. Would it best to push it forward a week or 2 so 2 weeks in June?

    Thank you

    Who knows

Ive been out in June in heatwaves of mid 40's and other times when Ive needed a jacket in the evenings

Ive been in August when the pool areas have had to be shut because the thermometers have popped because it went over 50. even the pool felt like a bath

Expect mid 30's, be prepared for 10 either side
