I had a quote for electrical work a few weeks back. I checked with someone on here whose husband is an electrician and the general feel was it was high. I wanted to get another quote but I've been unable to. i just spoke to the guy who quoted and I said it was too high compared to 'the other quotes' I said I appreciated price was not the only way of choosing a contractor and I liked his firm and they came highly recommended. Was the way of bringing the price down? I suggested the work would not take the quoted time. If I could have other work done if there were a few hours remaining that would encourage me to accept the quote. He said he could do that. So I am getting my outside light erected and I will buy a extractor fan to get fitted in the kitchen too.

I am so pleased with myself for negotiating with him. It also helps the relationship as he can see I am not a pushover. There are other works that need doing so if I have an electrician going forward that will be most helpful.

Thank you Homegrown0 for supporting me with this as you enabled me to find a way forward.

I'm delighted that you managed to come to a solution that you're both happy with! It really was no trouble at all from my end, just glad it helped.

You've really done all this yourself, so you should take all the credit and give you a massive pat on the back. I bet you can't wait until the work is done now :)

It's so good to hear you sounding happy with yourself. Keep that self confidence up now you've made a start. (((hugs)))
    I Believe.....
That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.

happiness isn't achieved by getting extra things,
but by getting rid of the things that make you unhappy

    Thanks for the positivity everyone.

I feel I am letting you all down by posting negatively today :o

A difficult day with the electrician so far. Feeling frustrated and on edge.

I am fed up with being a self rescuing princess.

It was a different man to the one who quoted and a different man to the one who owns the company. I so prefer working with sole traders. He came early but then disappeared for an hour to buy what he needed when the quote made clear what was needed.

I felt he dragged the work out too. It is 11.45 as I write this and all he has done is put a light in. Now he has gone to lunch! Not overly pleased with the company and won’t be using them again.

I HATE this whole process of getting the house sorted and starting to hate tradesmen too.

I will keep looking for an electrician to work with going forward.

I am due to return to work tomorrow and I am having a stressful day. :( I should have arranged for this work next week but I wanted it over with :o

Thanks for reading my rant and I am trying to change my thinking to acknowledge that by the end of the day my wiring will be safe and that is the main point to focus on.

Thanks abba1772. My instinct is to tell him to leave it but I MUSTNT do that as I will have to employ someone else to finish the job. Glad it isn't me overreacting.

I am going to leave the house for a few minutes to see if that helps...

You couldn't make it up! He has beaten me to to it. He needs to pop to buy something else he needs for the job

 to electrician - I would send you the lovely one I found here but you're too far away. (Originally chosen simply because his CheckATrade listing said no job too small, it turns out he lives in the next village and has fitted in my small jobs on his office days.)

Don't have him back and you are right to just focus on having improved your safety by the end of the day.

And you are not letting us down, we are here to listen as well as to cheer.
