It matters to the small-minded idiots on here like AdrianC and Andy Mc.

How dare someone say anything without knowing every last detail. If not, they're sure to focus on the minutiae rather than the main reason for the post.
To be fair you ask a question and when people give you the correct answer legally, you can't really complain about it.
Adrian is sometimes pedantic( or exact ;) ) but is fair and honest in his answers.

There are only seven characters in BE11 END and that's all anyone with a personalised number plate will ever need.

Strikes me that there a few that ought to have private plate that don't.

I know someone who has ?F10 NA? and had it spaced ? F10NA ?. Lasted about 3 months before getting pulled.

Plod don't always know what is right though *.
I used to make plates and we had a spacing template so very difficult to get wrong. A customer had come back because he had been pulled as the spacing between the 2 blocks was too big. His plate was something like ??L 7??. When I measured the gap it was actually bang on, it looks big but it is due to the shape of the letters. Had to write a letter on headed paper stating chapter and verse to take to the station with his producer.

*Much the same as when people were getting pulled for all weather headlight bulbs which were actually E marked - ironic as police cars were using non E marked high performance bulbs !

I'd never heard of all weather bulbs before but Google tells me that they shed an attractive yellowish-white light. Fair enough ....makes a change from the trend towards bluer and bluer headlamps except that I noticed that you can buy xenon arc all weather bulbs so I don't know what colour they would be.

And we wonder why the country is falling apart when the police are wasting time stopping people to give a fine because the letters/numbers on their registration plate don't meet certain standards. But people are being murdered on the streets...We can't afford more police officers.....That's because they are all doing pointless jobs that make the govt a little more money!

I can understand mis representing a registration mark as in adding extra screws to make them appear different but G666 FKP is G 666FKP which is also the same as G 6 6 6 F K P

This is one case where it`s not all about raising extra revenue.
If a number plate is presented in a slightly different format than required by law, ANPR cameras have difficulty in correctly identifying the vehicle, criminals know this and will take advantage if too much leeway is given.

Unless I'm missing something here, what question have I asked?

If the law says number plates should be a certain format, then I think the police should absolutely be spending time stopping people. But if the police aren't bothering, why have the law?

Absolutely, let the police enforce excise offences and leave the murders, rapists and burglers free to continue to commit their offences.

Just looking at your threads started at least 5 questions(under this username anyway).

My point still stands, people ask questions and often don`t like the detailed answers they are given as it disagrees with the answer they wanted.

I think that the point made in post no. 56 regarding ANPR answers that one.
