So what was the plate then?

I don't remember the exact plate, but it was illegal.
  • I have a private plate which spells my surname. I had it on my car for about a year without the necessary spacing when l was pulled over here in Worcestershire by a well known Scottish copper from a certain well known tv programme.

Result? A £30 ticket. Since then, being a tight wad, I've displayed my plate as it should be.

When l go abroad, l can't resist sticking my old illegal plates on once l'm over the channel, just for devilment. Never had a problem with that..

So in other words you made it up for effect.

If you want random passing drivers and people you don't know to be aware of your surname, why not just get it printed onto your car, rather than attempting to spell it out using the numbers and letters of your licence plate?

Yep. totally fabricated it just so I could feel special. I love making-up stories to impress a bunch of random people on the internet. I call you my friends because I don't have any real ones. Coming on here makes me feel less sad and less alone.

Because l want to do it my way, not your way.

That's not my way. I have no desire in trying to make my plate/car spell something. I was just suggesting a way that would mean you could still have your surname spelled out without the threat of a fine.

My way is to have a personal plate that means nothing, which is actually quite annoying because I'm always being asked what it means. But don't you do that, because that's my way. You don't want to do things my way.

I'd like a 'plate so forgettable that no two witnesses can agree what it was, as my innocuous grey Audi/BMW slips back into the stream of clones (without indicating obviously) following "The Incident" :D
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I don't have an issue with mis-placing but I do when people start using screws etc to make characters something that they aren't.

If you do it then it will only be a matter of time before you do get pulled. I got pulled by VOSA for a spot check once and had to change the plates and get a form stamped at an MOT station to say it had been done. I think I paid £10 to the garage but can't remember whether or not there was a fixed penalty.

I put mis-placed plates back on and wasn't pulled again. I later sold the plate for a nice profit before selling the car.

Since it doesn’t exist it would be.
