Fibre, actual benefit?

Nothing in this thread has changed my gut feeling that fibre would not make a significant difference to my internet experience, so I am going to stick with regular ADSL for the time being.Stompa0

The moment you get the dreaded buffering, in any situation, is the time to move from ADSL.....;):)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

It's a rare occurrence and not obviously related to multiple streams, so I don't think that my 15Mbps ADSL is the issue. Of course it could be, but I am not at all convinced.0 -
I just got fibre and can say it was one of the best decisions ever. Downloads are done in no time and the barely make out the actors faces fuzzy picture has turned into HD quality. And it's cheaper!0

On ADSL we got no more than 2.5 down - when I had to work from home, i was forced into using a 4G SIM.
Now we have fibre (FTTC) and consistently get 75mb down, 20 up.
We are about 100 yards from the DSLAM (new box)0 -
We upgraded from ADSL to FTTC last September. Our download speed has gone from about 7 - 34mb.
We do a bit of streaming and this is slightly more stable. Downloading data for updates etc is noticeably faster.
General internet browsing does not appear much faster as bottlenecks are not restricted just to download speed.
I may have been unlucky but we have just had a 5 day outage on our fibre (unexplained by our ISP).
Our driver for upgrading was cost - cheaper package on fibre that the old ADSL.0 -

When it came to time to change, Plusnet weren't keen to give me a deal and I could get Sky Fibre for a very similar total cost to sticking with Plusnet ADSL, so in the end I decided to try it.
The speed is a little better. Officially it's twice as fast, but most of the time you can't tell. It seems to have eliminated the occasional buffering issues and other glitches, so there appears to be a real benefit.
I think the speed I had on ADSL was adequate and the difference is down to reliability rather than the extra speed.0 -
As others have said, it all depends on what you use your internet for. Personally, I couldn't go back to ADSL. Apart from the increase in download speeds (I currently get 55Mbps), what bothers me is upload speed, I couldn't 'live' with less than 1 Mbps.
Currently I get 55/9.5 down/up, but I'm strongly considering switching to 80/20.0 -
If I could get 15Mbit/s on ADSL I'd be happy enough.
Use the BT checker to see what your predicted speeds are and will be on FTTC... https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/
My line maxes out at 27-28 Mbit/s FTTC ... but only 2-3Mbit on ADSL. So the extra cost for FTTC is a must have for us.0 -

Ours went from 2 to 80, so now I can stream in UHD while others in the family do their own thing without any problem plus as has been said there are no outages.0
