I assume you don't use many streaming services, Netfflix, Amazon etc.

    No, none at all.

We have Virgin BB and never see any buffering, even when nephews and nieces are staying and everyone is using it.
I've had two streaming games (different ones) while we've watched Netflix and another was watching iPlayer in on a tablet. My sister was still able to catch up with some work with no problems whatsoever.
Granted that was a full on day and the BB speed is a bit overkill on a normal day, to say the least.
Everyone will have to make individual choices based on usage, budget, availability. No size fits all, but, I couldn't imagine just having ADSL if I moved out of a cable area.

What is the difference in price between the ADSL and the Fibre?

I'm paying £19 pcm for ADSL, the current offer for fibre with the same provider is £25, so about 30% more at the moment, but it might be different by the time the fibre is actually available.

Does £19 pcm include line rental? I would hope so).

This topic is interesting to me, how much bandwidth you actually need? It seems that the industry wants to use Internet as a broadcasting system.. Yes, they need more resource hungry contents (i.e. 4k) to sell faster internet connection.

Some useful information ( but reference only, test yourself with your own real environment)

How much data does a YouTube video consume
    https://www.quora.com/How-much-data-does-a-YouTube-video-consume-1

    2160p video : 20000 kbps
    1440p video : 8913 kbps
    1080p video : 3774 kbps
    720p video : 3000 kbps

Yes, Broadband Business needs to promote 4K streaming service. (well I personally maintain the position we need 80inch 4K display to appreciate 4k benefit * )

How fast should my Internet connection be to watch streaming HD movies?

Test the streaming by yourself. I don't talk about fps ; frames per second, this is also an important factor, you can do your own benchmark test with various setting at your own environment, then you will get some ideas.

    (FPS: 60)

I personalty don't need Fiber for my use with my own environment, as my max display capacity is 1080p lol.

    * I am not saying the latest 4k capable display is not worthless, the latest 4k capable displays have a much better quality than old 4k capable displays. Some would use 4k displays with much smaller tablet/smartphone.

Yes. Officially £19 pcm is the line rental and the broadband is "free".

Nothing in this thread has changed my gut feeling that fibre would not make a significant difference to my internet experience, so I am going to stick with regular ADSL for the time being.

You're choice of course but I'd have thought that:
Mostly it all works well, occasionally there are complaints that iplayer has stuck, with a red spinning circle, but that's rare.

would tell you that you're on the edge of acceptable speed. Fibre would give you more than enough headroom for now and the future.

It depends on your usage but I mean realistically for some users the difference between Fibre and ADSL isn't as obvious as it would have been going from dial-up to broadband. When that first became available speeds of 56kbps down the phone line as a telephone call or going for ADSL with a speed of up to 512kbps the difference was very noticeable.
