Browsing their website I noticed sometimes there is a free 0800 number and sometimes 0844. Reading that you could be waiting for ages on the phone it is important that I know whether it is free to contact them by phone before making a decision. Thanks

If you ring the 0800 number it won't cost, so there is nothing to lose. I've never had to pay.0

Calls to Plusnet support are free from Plusnet lines.
0800 numbers are free anyway from any landline or mobile.0 -
Calls to 0800 and 0808 numbers are free-to-caller on landlines and on mobiles.Browsing their website I noticed sometimes there is a free 0800 number and sometimes 0844.
It is illegal for an 0844 number to be offered for after-sales enquiries and issues and it is utterly foolish to offer such numbers for pre-sales enquiries.
Is the 0844 number on their official website or is it on some random third party premium rate "call connection service" scam website?0 -

Callers have to pay up to 62p per minute to call 084 numbers. All this just so the called party can get their grubby hands on, what, 5p per minute revenue share?Call our sales team on 0844 326 0170 It is on their website.
It's time they woke up and properly assessed what they are doing. Having done so, they would soon realise how utterly daft that situation is and stop doing it.0 -

Their website certainly gives a 0800 number for their sales team0

And, when you google that number, there's no reference to Plusnet (apart from this thread!)0 -

Not very good and not sure whether the link will work.0 -
Have you actually tried the number? It's rare I find a workable 0845/0844 number these days, they seem to all ask the same thing when you try them; something along the lines of "this number is no longer valid, please hang up and try 0345/0344 before announcing the call charges are that of a normal landline number.0
