Guys, being told you have an offer of MINUS money is never something to celebrate.
Unless I'm misunderstanding what you really mean, that's a rather odd way of looking at things - an offer of money, even though it has to be paid back, is self-evidently useful to millions of people. Just because for some it proves to be a temptation and potentially ultimately a burden doesn't negate the usefulness of credit cards as a product....

Got slightly confused with iphone upgrade choices.
Best deal to 'upgrade' Se to 8 is 0 u[pfront payment and 40:00 per month 30 months though this means I've be changing provider after a few years of exceptionally reliable service.
I won't be using Aqua card at all I'll just consider +13 from SE to IPhone 8

Are you considering a phone upgrade at £40 month, with your history and with defaults on your record still? Or are you being sensible and resisting the temptation?
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Understanding clearly what money is Minuses and what is Pluses (because some people really don't) is very much in the context and theme of moneysavingexpert.com

It is something to celebrate when it becomes a necessity. For example, renting car, especially in europe requires you have a credit card with high limit. It all depends how you are going to use it.

To a certain extent I agree with what I think you're trying to say in that it's important that people don't perceive credit as free money, but describing credit as being offered 'minus money' is a strange turn of phrase that I've never seen on here (or anywhere else) before.

Without wishing to get bogged down in the technicalities of double-entry book-keeping and so on, any credit facility will be both a plus (being credited with the money) and a minus (having to pay it back), so characterising credit as being offered 'minus money' seems unlikely to help anyone understand anything IMHO, but hey ho, if it works for you then good luck to you!

    Possibly not sensible as such.
Got existing provider o2 to price match sky mob offfer at least similar monthly payments-almost as I caved onto iPhone 8 insurance for loss/accidental damage etc -only as its glass type body-wouldn't like ton damage this at start of 2 year contract.
SE is sent to music magpie as I mentioned on another not as popular thread
Potential 130.00 payment to re claim for se recycle.
    That's me tech happy 2018 -Iphone8 2yrs contract
iPad Pro 10.5 -approx 18 mths remaining
    Both via O2
Fierce competition in mob market-O2 basically discounted almost 25.00 per month from advertised cost which matched Skys offer. All via o2 Echat.
I chose to stay with o2 as its 24mthss rather than 30 months and their service has been highest reliability.

Correct, not sensible 'as such', not sensible at all. Why did you need an iPhone 8?

Oh, never mind, no need to explain.

  • I think some are missing the point here.

This isn't celebrating minus money - it's not minus money unless it's spent.

As someone that had a terrible credit history for a long time, that worked hard to get it improved - paying off genuine bad credit, fighting my corner with history that was no more than lies on my credit records, waiting for genuine bad credit that was now settled to drop off my credit files after six years, and slowly building good credit history after settling debt... I know why this is a good feeling for the OP.

As you go through credit-building credit cards, handle credit responsibly, and credit card companies start trusting you with more limits, it's a good feeling.

Is it dangerous? Is it daft to have more money? Yes, if you haven't learned your lessons.

If you have though, and you don't use the available credit to get into trouble, then it's a great feeling. Having it there and not using it irresonsibly helps to build credit worthiness in the eyes of current, and future, lenders.

OP - well done on your improving credit worthiness. As Aqua increases your limit, you should be able to get a mainstream card more quickly than you can imagine. I did first with my bank, Halifax... And then a little while later with Tesco Bank. It's quite remarkable how quickly you can build credit.

It's a massive opportunity to improve your credit history and the ability to show you're responsible for sure. It's also a massive opportunity to mess up, if you're not truely ready for it. The power is in your hands, and deep down you'll know if you can handle it or not. Let that be your guide in deciding how to handle offers of credit - and be absolutely honest with yourself when you do that. You only have yourself to harm if you're not.
