It says 'up to £10' on the Monilink website, does that mean only certain banks are doing it? On A&L website, it says they only give £5 so who's giving the £10 exactly?0

Edna, you're being very negative aren't you?
Moni link appear to be owned and operated by the same people as bring you.... cash out of wall - LINK. If my bank (HSBC) are prepared to put their name to this service and these guys run the busiest, securest ATM network in the world, I for one am happy. If tens of thousands of people hit their website in a couple of days, I'd be surprised if there weren't problems.
When I signed up for sky on my mobile it was a nightmare getting the right settings onto my phone - and I think it's good at least that they are helping if people have a problem on the phone.
I've had Moni link since MSE told me about it in April and have had no problems. They were also good on the phone.
If it's good enough for NatWest, HSBC and the others, I think you might be being a bit harsh.
Sorry, but if 50,000 people can look at this post and we see a handful of problems, it doesn't look like a problem to me.

Hi Pete,
Send me a personal message with your mobile phone number and I will investigate and ensure you receive your £10.
Regards,

Can you guarantee I'll get the £10 and is there any way I can get the tenner you owe me from last time?!0 -

Warby
No wish at all to fall out with you Warby, but I'd just say:
a) over 52000 views nowbut with respect that figure doesn't mean a lot - if I started a spurious "free tenner" thread, I'm sure I get the same - MSE'ers are like that.
It doesn't correlate to how many have taken it up at all - all I see is a couple of pages with a couple of positives and loads of problems. Forgive me, but I DO get upset when MSE'ers have problems with offers and you'll excuse me but that ain't going to change.
b)"If it's good enough for NatWest, HSBC and the others..."
Mmmmn, perhaps my memory is failing here but aren't those the sort of big bad banks the site owner here is always launching tirades, and campaigns about/against? I must have missed the part where we suddenly thought they, and their providers were great!
c) The Moanilink representative has used this thread not only to help (some) of those problems, but he/she's also taken ample opportunity to plug their business as well! Normally the Freebie section has another name for people who use is to promote themselves.
d) Although he/she has answered some individual questions, I see that although he/she has been online here recently, he hasn't yet had the guts to answer my more general concerns. Not very impressive!
My apologies then if I've offended you, but until I'm 100% sure that this service is 100% safe and secure for the MSE community you may find me a little harsh again with this bunch.
Kind regards.0 -
Hi Oxymore,
HSBC, first direct, NatWest, RBS and Ulster Bank are all offering £10. A&L are offering £5 to all customers who register via Internet Banking.
However, as of 6th Nov A&L will be offering £10 to all their customers who sign up & use their mobile phone banking. :j
Hope this answers your question.

ROFMAO!! See post #75 :rotfl:0 -
Edna,
Thanks for your messages - I could say loads in open forum here about how secure we are and how the problems I have helped to deal with are uncommon, but I don't want to fall foul of the other part of what you said - that I'm promoting MONILINK (rather than just trying to help).
What I would like to say is that on Wednesday and Thursday last week, the amount of traffic we saw on our websites was many times that we would see on a normal day, and we did have a few performance problems at the time - some customers did see an error screen.
As for the help with phones - getting MONILINK to work on over 300 different phones on all the various mobile networks can once in a while be difficult, as all phones are different and the settings needed for each phone varies. not every phone has the right settings out of the box (and some phones came out of their boxes a long time ago)! Mobile banking is very new technology, and we're working really hard to make it simple - I'm sorry that you have taken such a strong position that it's NOT simple, and that everyone is having such a hard time - that's not our experience of it at all, but I do respect your point of view.
As for the banks pushing MONILINK that you mentioned above - A&L is very often promoted by Martin as a bank with good rates. Alliance & Leicester customers can also use MONILINK.
I'm happy to talk to you more on private messages about security if you would like. I'm not "trolling" - I'm trying to help. If anyone would like help, feel free to send me a private message if you would rather not do it in open forum.
I Hope that helps you, Edna,

You didn't offend me, Edna, don't worry! I just thought you were being a bit harsh yourself, that's all. I'm normally a sceptic myself. When I joined in April, I got my tenner and I've kept using it ever since on my phone. It felt secure to me - they check your address with the bank and then post you a login code there before you can get in to use the details on your phone.

I signed up last week. Can anyone tell me how long it should take for the activation code to show up in the post? Thanks!0

Fair play to Greg Hunt of Monilink for making the reply - it may have taken me a bit of "coaxing" to get it outbut at least it was a comprehensive one when it came.
The only thing I would add to the above is that whilst I do quite accept that the above quote is true, should it all have been a surprise? The diversity of phones is something obvious a good project manager would have picked up on before setting this operation "live."
Personally, I think I'll let the rest of you see how you get on with this system over the next year or so before trusting my bank details in this way.0
