Cheap airline seating

I think jpsartre is missing the point of the article. For many years there has been a facility to pay for pre booking seats. Despite never taking that option I have only once been split from my wife. However, things seem to have changed and some airlines seem to be purposely splitting people because they never paid. I flew a few weeks ago on my own and was allocated the middle seat. Wouldn't it have made more sense to allocate me seat A or C then kept the other 2 seats for a travelling couple. As it turns out no one sat there so you couldn't even say the seats were allocated as 3 singles.
Believe it or not there are still some people who travel on a tight budget so getting charged to sit beside your partner (or children) or simply choosing to travel with another airline is not just a case of choice.0 -
Thank you Richard. I am well aware the exit window should be disposed of, leaving the exit clear for passengers to escape. My question is where should I put it? Even the girl in the YouTube video holds it while looking around, it doesn't show what she eventually does with it. Even so, she doesn't have passengers packed in all around her. Those close around me are not likely to helpfully take it from me as there will be a panicing press of people all around just wanting out. Lay it on the floor? So passengers can trip over it and possibly fall? I worked as cabin crew some years ago but I remember we had adequate space by the exit windows to park the thing quickly.0

I'm not sure what article you are referring to. I'm saying that if you want to hit Ryanair on the pocket then don't pay them to transport you in the first place. However, I suspect most of the people up in arms over Ryanair policies will gladly fly with them in the future as long as they present the cheapest option. And nobody flying away on holiday is on such a tight budget that they can't spend less than a tenner to sit together if that's important to them.0 -

It might depend on the aircraft but usually you're supposed to throw it out the emergence exit. It will be explained on the instructions by the emergency exit row.0 -
Please do not sit there DIN.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Me and my partner flew with Jet2 last year and were seated 3 rows apart because we didn't pay to sit together. This is despite there being 6 empty rows of seats. We spoke to the stewardess who organised seats together for us. On the return journey there were a few scattered empty seats and we ended up sitting 2 rows apart. Many others were in the same predicament. Jet2 obviously have a cynical, mean policy of sitting couples apart if they don't pay for adjacent seats. This policy seems to have crept through the industry in the last year or so. We fly 2 or 3 times a year and this was the first time we had been treated so badly.0

Why do we have to pay to sit together?
When I go to a restaurant with my wife they dont say "oh if you want to sit at the same table it will be extra". It is automatic
You should be be able to select seats together at time of booking for free.Yes if your the last ones to select then that is tough.
As regards weight distribution me and my wife probably weigh less together than some that get on on their own.
Why do they specify 5kgs hand luggage and weigh it if they think its more, but a guy 50kgs heavier than me can get on without excess baggage charges
All airlines are robbing us blind over this.
So they split up families and I have to sit next to someone else's crying and wailing child.
When can I select a seat that they guarantee is not next to either an obese, noisy, drunk or smelly person. Now that would be worth a little extra.0 -
It is all about additional revenue streams Gook, which are so very important in business now.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
