Could it be a plane that has a second smaller cabin that is also economy but usually reserved for frequent flyers? Or it could be a plane change and the graphic hasn't caught up with itself yet.

I wondered that too, but the seat I'm in (4G) is only available on their widebody jets, and it's in biz class on all of them. As Boris said earlier, it's highly likely that they'll just bump me back to economy, but for £27 I had to take the chance! If they do that, then I'll need to decide whether to demand my £27 back...

    Hi

I flew with partner to Trieste recently. Checked in the day before and were automatically allocated two middle seats one behind the other, in extra legroom rows. Two people travelling together boarded having checked in the morning of the flight and were allocated the adjacent window seats to us, again one behind the other. Of course we swapped, didn't ask the flight crew! On return we were allocated aisle seats 10 rows apart. Again two people travelling together had been allocated the middle seats next to ours. Again we swapped without asking! Safety is an issue. In emergency will partners try to find each other resulting in chaos?

No in an emergency panic will result in chaos, most programs i have seen on the tv about plane crashes/fire/etc it is survivel of the fitest, rightly or wrongly the weak get pushed aside:(
  • I have first hand experience of Aeroflot.
They are good if you have a frequent flyer membership i.e. Aeroflot, or KLM. when booking the flight you have the chance to reserve your seat at no charge (unless you want an upgrade) . the class of seat available depends upon the price you pay.
Unlike KLM you cannot talk to the purser and use your airmiles to upgrade on board. there may be empty seats but you cannot sit in them if they are superior class. you should have upgraded before, i was told.
having said that, i think that Aeroflot are underrated. okay, no films and limited or no alcohol. but the cabin staff are always helpful and the meals are good.

    Hi,

Been reading the airline seating thread.
Your No 7 tip states that you can choose your seats for free with Virgin Atlantic as soon as you book,as long as you are checking in baggage to the hold.
We have used Virgin quite a few times to fly to the states, and they always want a fee for pre-booked seats.
We have a trip booked with them to New York in May,and if I try to book seats, they want £30 per seat...how is that free?

I've got Virgin Atlantic Economy tickets to/from LA in May, and like the post says, they're asking £30 per person each way to select a seat.
    HOWEVER,
if you have the Flying Club membership (which is free), then you can select free seats 72 hours beforehand. Just Google Virgin Atlantic Flying Club!!:)

Free seat selection on Economy class - at least I found out months ahead of my flights and managed to get the seats of my choice for nothing extra :D

But it helps if everyone is moving towards the exit as opposed to some human traffic moving against the flow to search for relatives.

We flew with Thai Airways recently and were able to pre-select seats just after booking, a few months ago. There was something on the website that said we wouldn't be able to as we hadn't booked directly, but when I plugged in the details it let me go ahead with the seat selection. There was a charge for premium seats, but standard ones were free. With the aid of seatguru I managed to get the 1 seat on the return flight that had no seat in front so I had oodles of leg room, and this counted as a free, standard seat :j

4G would suggest the seat has 6 other seats to the left. (4A-4F) and if thats the case it wont be business class.
A 747 economy cabin is 3x4x3 in general and premium economy would perhaps be 2x3x2.
Business class is not going to have at least 7 seats per row. more like 4

Travelling short haul on BA recently, with hand luggage only, so allocated seats on online check in. On the return leg I was allocated the window seat of the emergency exit. Now thankfully I am very fit and healthy, but I am also 75, so surely I should not have been there?
I would like to know how much extra legroom there is supposed to be for the emergency exits on BA short haul - two inches? Less?
From my job as cabin crew many years ago I remember the emergency exit, the window, is very heavy. Looking around at the packed aircraft I wonder exactly where I was supposed to put it once opened?

Singapore Air do free seating allocation when you book.
Sadly, I'm pretty sure that changed earlier this year.

Yes, I said on another thread that we paid for seat allocation with Singapore Airlines (travelling economy).
