If they were concerned about safety they would not treat their pilots badly and incentivise too many bags in the cabin.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

There's lying.
There's not offending passengers.
There's applying reasonable averages across 160 passengers that will usually ensure even balance.
I'm no fan of Ryanair, but to stick this in a "lying" category is nonsense.0 -
I used to commute weekly for a couple of years from UK to Belfast and Dublin. Although I always chose the best available seat when checking in online as soon as it was open, I rarely actually sat in that seat.
I just made sure I was the last passenger to board and almost always found there were plenty of empty seats at the front which cost a lot more. Cabin staff were always happy to agree to my suggestion that I took up one of these.
Of course it didn't work if the flight was completely full, but that wasn't too often. And I found it just doesn't work on Ryanair who flatly refused even though the whole section was empty. No risk of not being let on because I'd already checked in, but I did very occasionally have to put my hand baggage in the hold as the lockers were full.
This has other advantages: no stressful queuing and pushing to get to the front, no long wait for takeoff, pleasant staff (who always seem happier when the end is in sight and there's no rush), and, of course, a nicer seat and one of the first off at the other end.0 -
Hi everyone,
Just booked for Sri Lanka in November with Etihad ffrom Manchester. Able to pick seats for every leg of the journey free of charge.0 -
Flying to JFK from LHR on American Airways, family of 3 with pregnant daughter. Wanted to check in for free seat allocation 24 hours before until daughter advised to check seats available 3 days before flight. No chance of sitting together unless we paid £152 for 3 seats that's an extra 27%....Goodness know how much BA are going to charge on the return ..... Mugged again..what a racket !!0

On American Airlines you can request seats when you book for no charge. Most people will have reserved theirs long ago. The only ones left together are probably extra legroom seats.
AA let you see what seats are available before you even select your flight. When I fly on AA, the availability of seats together affects which flight I take.0 -
Just back from a trip with Ryanair, having booked 1 seat beside the others allocated seat, there was nothing at £4 for a seat, cheapest price was £7, then £10,£12,£17 then £25-for a front (4) rows. Just before take off - it was like musical chairs, this one swoping with that one, etc, etc, amusing to watch. However having paid to sit together, there was a to do party on the flight, worst 4 hours ever and the galling thing was we paid for that seat.
The 4 hour flight felt like the 4 days we were away for.Always have 00.00 at the end of your mortgage and one day it will all be 0's :dance:MF[STRIKE] March 2030[/STRIKE] Yes that does say 2030  Mortgage Free 21.12.18 _party_Now a Part Timer from 27.10.190
