Big Savings Club

I have just recently purchased something from Bid Up TV and was asked if I wanted a 30 day free trial to The Big Savings Club. Apparently there was a one off fee of £1.99 for the pack to be sent out ( hardly free then ) and then after 30 days if you did not cancel they would take £99.99 out of your account. Anyway they offered all sorts of discounts and 2 free 2 day breaks away. Anyway, I declined as I dont really like agreeing to these things quickly, like to check them out first as they are normally too good to be true. Has anyone had any dealings with them.. I would be intrested to know.

Thanks

Lisa

  • Hi Lisa, I'm happy to see that you've declined and I hope many, many others do so too. My only experience of BSC is looking at the web site a few minutes ago while investigating this club which has lightened my idiotic brother-in-law of £99.99.

He signed up for the free trial but let the trial period lapse, looking at the T&C it is possible to recover membership fees, but at diminishing returns.
Cancellation period: less than 30 days = full refund
    days 31-50 = £49.99 refund
    days 51-64 = £29.99 refund
day 65+ = zero, zip, nada.
If you don't cancel before the date of 2nd year renewal, that's another £99.99 to kiss goodbye.

In a nutshell, they are selling discounts, promotions and vouchers which are widely and freely available from the web and - in plenty of cases - inferior to those posted on MSE.com (and) forums.

Can't comment on the company itself or the legitimacy of the offer - I don't know enough about consumer law. The promotion helps no-one but the marketing company and their clients, and least of all the member.
  • Don't even think about it.

They took £99.99 from my card as I (stupidly) agreed to the 1 month trial when I bought an item and didn't read the stuff they posted to me within the 30-day trial period.

The blurb says you can cancel between days 31 and 60 but you don't get a full refund - they will only refund £94.99. This is not easy. You call the number and go through an automated process where you enter your membership number (not easy to read as it is a bit blurred on the card and starts with letters instead of numbers) and then only the numbers from your post code - which it fails to recognise and suggests you visit the website. At the start of this process you are assured that you will be given a cancellation confirmation code which you must write down............. doh!

The website then makes it really difficult for you to cancel so you end up sending a message to them using the "contact us" route and you receive an automatic response. I sent the message on 5th December and promise to pursue this and keep everyone up to speed with how I get on.

Feel very dumb to have been caught like this - but confession is good for the soul and sharing with others might prevent them taking anyone else to the cleaners like this.

  • I also got caught with this lot too, bought from bid tv took offer up and before trial finished i emailed company with all correct details (think i had to call a number 1st)anyway even though i cancelled within my trial i was stilll debited £99.99,i called their help line and was really angry,i did however get a full refund as i knew everything was cancelled correctly, they tried to say they never received email i sent them.
  • Hi, I also got caught out by this scam. I have tried going to www.bigsavingsclub.com but its not a real site, its just sponsored links and I can find no way to get in contact. It doesnt' help that I never received any pack from them so I have no account number. Thanks, Marina
  • Hi, I too opted to go for this trial via Bid TV, but didn't use any of the discounts during the trial. My trial ends today - after umming + ahing for 30 days about it - and I was googling for reviews, to see if it was worth going for or not, when I found this forum. Thanks to all on here for the info, and I decided to cancel! Their website is real, it's just not very good. It said to go to "My Account" to cancel, well there's no such page, but I found it eventually ... you have to log in using the trial membership number, then go to the "Contact us" page, where I found a link to a "cancellation page", which returned a cancellation number, which was also emailed to me straight away. So cancellation seems to have been successfully done via their website. I trust I wasn't debited yet, but will double check tomorrow. Thanks again for the warnings, and I'll report back whether everything went ok.
