won laser eye surgery if I don't bottle it.(advice wanted)

I've had an optimax email saying I can have one eye done, (if suitable), but it has to be in November.
I've looked up other threads about opimax and laser eye surgery on this site, and it seems to be legit, although there's some pressure to pay extra to have the other eye done at the same time.
One eye is fine for me, as one is seriously short sighted and the other is almost normal, but I keep going really squeamish at the thought of someone messing with my eyes, or it going horribly wrong.
Still dithering, but as the consultation fee is refundable either way, I might go along just to see what they say.
Anyone who's had lasik eye surgery and could offer opinions, I would be very grateful.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

  • Congratulations Babe, I had both eyes done 3 years ago for my 40th. It is without doubt the best thing I have ever done. I didn't realise my sight was that bad cos I think you get used to the limits of your eyesight, but I realised I couldn't see writing on the tele, or see roads signs etc(til I was a few yards in front of them). The other thing that bugged me was I couldn't see my friends faces from a distance so as a result people would acknowledge me and I would ignore them! The operation itself is painless. They put liquid anaesthetic in your eyes (just like eyedrops), they put some sort of clamp round your eye to keep it open (don't worry it's not uncomfortable). Then you lay down look up at a light on the laser machine and it starts working. The time it takes is dependant on how much correction you need, it's not very long. I was in and out with all the prep within 10 minutes. It doesn't hurt, but if you are a bit squeamish, the only thing is, is that you can smell burning a bit, obviously as the laser goes to work. Afterwards they put these protective eye patches over your eyes, but as I left the building I swapped them for my sunglasses(i am a bit vain)! But honestly, even though they were sensitive to the light I could see things that I hadn't imagined that I would. For instance details in the carvings on top of some of the old victorian buildings in leeds, and also the road signs at the traffic lights 200 metres away. The biggest shock was when I got home and looked out of my bedroom window that i have looked out of for 12 years. I could see a golf course over the backs of the other houses that I didn't know was there! I could even see the putting green! i was gobsmacked. They give you painkillers, a sleeping tablet and loads of artificial tears for the first few days, and my eyes were sensitive to the light for a bit. But honestly I would recommend it to anyone, the staff were professional and fantastic, there was loads of info from customers who recommended it, and I can honestly say that it is the best thing I ever did.

    Hope this helps a bit.

hi mate, could u please state how bad your eye sight was? i.e -2, -3 etc?
    cheers
  • I had laser eye surgery with Ultralase in August, after shopping around and going to consultations with several companies. Although high maintenence for the first few days (there's no way you'd be able to work or drive for about four days), it really is the best thing I've ever done. I must say though, when I turned up to my consulation with Optimax, they kept me waiting for 45 mins before telling me they weren't expecting me, despite the fact I had a letter of confirmation with me. They refused to see me that day, and tried to tell me I'd have to take another day off work and make the journey another day. I wasn't very confident in trusting them with my eyesight after that! That's just my experience though...have a mooch around google and find out what their customers said.

I had my eyes done by Optimax and my prescription was -8,so I was blind as a bat. Optimax were fantastic. Within an hour I was on my way home and I could see all the train signs at the Station. My eyes went to 20/20 vision. It was the best money I ever spent. Optimax are very professional and will not do the laser treatment if your eyes are not suitable. Congratulations If I were you I would have it done, It really is amazing being able to see and drive without glasses.

:j Well done on the win.

I can't really comment as it's not something I've ever considered (I had reading glasses for the first time this year) but wish you all the best with whatever you decide
  • Laser eyes? I'd totally go for that, even if it was just the one eye :)
