Good luck recurrent-ostrich!! Are we mad aiming for 3 years?! I completely understand about the holiday - we had a £7k break we couldn't afford which was just ridiculous looking back  We'll do something like that once we're debt free now instead
Mad? Possibly, but we've fannied about with this debt for about 5 years now, completely failing to reduce it- in fact increasing it despite consolidating -twice! So this time we need to get it shifted as now nearly half of our income goes on debt/mortgage, which is just ludicrous considering we are both in fulltime work.
We've shifted £4.5K since November, so we're on the right track but it's so hard when you have no savings and a bunch of maxxed out credit cards and you get an unexpected bill.
Still, I'm determined to get there this time. So by Summer 2015 (hopefully) we'll be sunning ourself on a beach somewhere......:DLong haul supporter #290POAYDBX2014 #043LBM Dec 2011 Debt £51K Debt Nov 2014 £42K0 -
Can I join please? I have 10K of debt, but due to my earnings my debt free date is August 2016!!! Definately long hauling it, and it would be nice to know they are others that are too.0

Out of interest where was £4.5k holiday to R-O? Maybe plan it for when you are debt free as something to work towards?
Consolidation is a nightmare - been there too (many times) Rarely works in my opinion! You sounds pretty determined this time, sure you'll get there

Tunisia. All inclusive, family of 5, school summer holidays. And yes, I have a long list of "things we can do when we're debt free". :rotfl:Long haul supporter #290POAYDBX2014 #043LBM Dec 2011 Debt £51K Debt Nov 2014 £42K0 -

I havent been abroad on holiday since I started by DMP back in 2005, but I have had the odd weekend away (in the UK) staying with my family.
As I become debt free in Dec this year, I am planning to have a holiday away in 2014 with my dad (who will then be 74) for the first time as I want to do something with him while he is still fit & able.
So we are planning to do a Battlefield Tour round the Normandy Beaches, this with only 6 months to go till my DFD is keeping me motivated !.0 -
Hi everyone, Im a Long Hauler too, with a debt free date of Mar 2016 - originally it was Aug 2016 so im hoping i can keep tweaking things and get it even nearer. Funnily enough was looking at an all-inc to Tunisia tonight - well its ok to dream isnt it! lol However with £20k of debt to get rid of and a threat of redundancy hanging over me I've decided Tunisia will have to wait. Thanks to everyone who posts here, I am a avid reader of many diaries and they really do inspire and keep me going when im feeling abit crappy and low x0

A thousand apologies for missing you...was skim reading due to lack of time and missed you..very sorry!
Things on the final plod here...I just need to pay off a bit of cc and loans which need to run and then want to start saving and paying extra off mortgage..even if I only pay a bit every month it makes a huge difference!
For those struggling I think the spending diary is prob the most effective debt weapon! Must do mine again as realised that lattes have become a bit of a routine which isnt good! Have also just bought a couple of crochet books. Have to say for those at the start it feels such a relief to almost be there; when I had my first lbm (Ive had a few off the wagon, on wagon...along the way!) I started at £37000 owing I didnt think I would ever get there...had I chosen and been able to keep up the extreme money version I would have been there alot earlier...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1!
