Welcome Katy and my apologies for being so long in responding; a combination of broken laptop (thankfully in warranty by the skin of its teeth!), a major operation (gastric bypass) and life in general being a struggle!
Spending diarys at the start are great and at times Ive gone back to basics..re blips on the journey there always are as life/circumstances get in the way! Plus we get in the way by self sabotaging at times! I have wondered over the years whether there is some security in being in debt which is ridiculous but concluded it was because it felt familiar...slowly getting there but can be frustrating when it takes so long but do think that over time my thinking has changed in terms of what I am willing to spend on things...at the start I would have spent hundreds on face creams etc and now balk at anything over £5!!
    Anyway...sorry a longwinded welcome!
great to hear peoples news and again, my apologies for such a late reply!
    Hi How's the band doing?

    Motivation required please!

    I am slipping again.

It seems to be a constant pattern. I am really good for a few weeks and then slip for a few weeks, then back to being good etc etc

    Grrr!
  • Very difficult Katy but find something that motivates you and will stop you spending. Since I started looking at the actual interest I was paying every month this has really motivated me. The amount I was paying would have taken me and my 2 kids abroad every year on holiday for 2 weeks. Now that was only the interest it wasn't counting the payments. If I had no payments or interest I could have worked part time and gone abroad every year :o. So find the one thing that stops you spending. This works for me :D

Get your spending diary back out :) My motivation is sseing the debt fall even if it's just by £5 or less! Pay £1 off something online and see if that gets your mojo back?:D

    Hi everyone,

Good to see some posts from fellow long haulers :) How are you you all doing? Nice to see you back ISOM, hope you are recovering well?

I am still plodding onwards. I have had car brakes to pay for at £120 plus broken front door £60. On the positive I actually paid cash for these AND NOT CC!! :D Woohoo!!!

I opened a savings account too - stupid I know when trying to pay off debt but psychologically for me a huge boost. Have about £100 towards our hol spending mone in August. I want to get used to budgeting for stuff and try to stop things 'needing' to go on cc.

I also created a very basic spreadsheet which shows I started my journey owing 64558.92 and now it is 61800.69 so 4.46% paid off :T still have dfd at end 2016 but getting there.

What has eveyone got planned for the bank holiday weekend? We have a few days away next weekend in a cheap Travelodge deal. Challenge now is to not spend lots while away but have to eat out etc. I have some Tesco vouchers swapped for Bella Italia so one nice meal :)

Hope you all have a cheap funfilled weekend :)

    H xx

sorry for delay...been a bit manic and brain malfunction combined!!
I am doing ok thanks. Its a gastric bypass that I had ), so unlike a band its a permanent thing! Lost 3 1/2 stone in 3 months and 2 days so weights coming off but its a defiante journey and I cant eat any sugar or fat as they both make me ill...so all in all a success from weight point of view but having to get lots of new clothes as they drop off quickly!
Sorry been awol...have been quite tired and just coping with day to day life has been tough so little energy for much else...I go to Italy next week for a week and am hoping to return feeling refreshed...

  • I've not posted for ages either, but have realised i need to get back on track or i'll be servicing this debt for the rest of my life! Was about to book a £4.5K holiday for next summer when I realised just how stupid this would be considering our level of debt. So i need to sort this out once and for all.
