it would be nice if life was easy :) if only paying off debt was as easy as getting into debt, eh? (well it was easy for me) just think how proud you will be at conquering that goal of paying teh argos card off - the interest rates for it are about 26% aren't they?
  • All credit cards have a field day with my intrest lol lol but we live and learn we live and learn hehe x

  • Yep, OH's offering to help, around £200 every month. We don;t live together yet but hope to soon. The idea is to get debt free first so we can actually afford it!

MIT, you're right - and life's challenges give us achievements. Sometimes it is a lesson learnt, sometimes more. Keep achieving! :)

Grr I have just spent awhile on the phone to a lady at Capital One, who called to help me with a complaint I have. Now she's given their final response on the matter I've got to go to the FOS to complain... MORE paperwork! I wish there was a guide to filling them in for default notice disputes (I used Martin's bank charges one last year, twice!).

I HATE credit cards and never want one again in my life! In fact, I hate credit in general. I agree with Soma, it would be great to get out of debt as easily as we get into it! I'd love to be able to issue companies with fines and charges as easily as they do too! lol

  • Yes Argos is about 26% so it would be a good few pounds if I don't pay this off before 3rd Sept. I feel the same on the subject of credit. I doubt if I will do this ever again. I will keep my argos card until I am debt free then I will always use savings for purchases. I use it wisely at the moment ( although slight hiccup this time) and always pay it off on an interest free basis so it isn't costing me any additional money. I can't believe I used the word savings when I am talking about me lol I have never saved in my puff. But there is hope for the future I would say
5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
    Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
    Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
    By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.00

I'm hoping to be a saver in a few years too lol just so much in the red that it's not even worth considering saying the word saving. Mind you I am gonna try and save for a holiday.
  • MIT - sounds very responsible with the Argos card to treat it as you have. Had capital One not been asses with me last year I'd have continued to do so well with it (I was using it to help my credit score, which is now in a worse state than when I started - 3 defaults now and I previously had none!)
26% sounds painful, good luck on your quest!

Soma, a holiday sounds great and I may take a leaf out of your book, if I have time - OH's off in August for 4 weeks before baby's due but in that time we have to do some work on his mum's place for her, clean our carpets and repaint the bedrooms, plus landlady promised the bathroom & toilet would be redone. If we have a spare weekend or more I may get to go camping (not the most exciting I know but I'd really love to go!) :D

  • SOma I am well in the red too and will take me about 5 years to clear my feet ( hopefully a wee bit quicker) I just want to think that in the future I will always use cash and not credit to buy what I want. I would love to be in a position where I had a couple of thousand in the bank for just incase money.

    Hello Everyone,

Just checking in as I haven't been here for a while. I hope everyone is well. Like previous posts I long to be in the black and saving instead of paying off debt. But that would be about 5 years for me too.

Just a quick update from me. I had my lightbulb moment July 2009 and stopped using credit cards then and with the odd hiccup I haven't. used them and the balances are slowly going down.

Well my circumstances are changing and I am moving closer to work. My outgoings hopefully should be a little bit better by £20 or so a month. But every little helps. I have to save for moving fees so have reduced all my payments to minimum payment for a few months, but that would be temporary.

I keep on thinking I have sorted it all out and think well the budget is tight but I will make it. However, there is always something isn't there? there has been a few murmors at work that there may be redundancies and with my debt being so high I feel so vulnerable as I know I couldn't make a month without working. And I am wondering how the VAT increase will impact my tight budget.

How do you all keep positive when you have a low moment? :(
  • Hi Nelly!

Personally, I remind myself of how far I've come (I've reduced my debt by nearly half since Dec 09!) and what I have to look forward to. I'm also lucky I have a beautiful daughter and a son due in 2 months. My OH & our future as a family is what keeps me going as my goal is pretty much what we have, we just want a house of our own and our dream wedding next year!

Monday is always my 'debt day' but last week I spent 3 days researching and writing, and this week looks to be the same. I take time out then to enjoy whatever I can - a trip to the beach or the local free outdoor pool, a visit to family or even an afternoon in the garden.

Have you got a list of goals/achievements to look at or think of? Are there any activities you love to do? Do you have a chocolate or cake weakness? A little bit of junk food makes a great reward, if consumed in moderation! lol

Good luck, anyway, (and well done already!) hope to see you around on here :)
