Hello,
Welcome babyplum to the long haulers - its a lovely group, apart from me. I'm very strange. Good luck in all your debtbusting endeavours.
HPGDF and scooby - trust me, don't put off kids until you can afford them - you can NEVER afford kids! Its amazing how you get by though. Even with my debt we manage somehow. Frankly as each month goes by I don't know how we do it, but it we do. If you want kids, have kids. You will never be ready for them so don't put it off. I'm sure most people with kids would say the same thing.
We thought for years that we should pay off our debt before having kids but we realised we would probably be dead before that happened, so we decided just to go for it and yes it is hard but I wouldn't miss it for the world!
Just my two pence for the day....!
Thank you scoobs for your kind words of support earlier. What card have you applied for? I'm so nervous about applying for cards but maybe its one I haven't tried - 0% would be lovely! - Fingers crossed you get it.
Love your new dog nic!Debt Sept 2007 (1st LBM) - £63,000 :embarasseStarted DMP July 2012 (2nd LBM) - £34,000DFD (currently) - 12 years!"Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get up."0 -
Thanks for the words of wisdom talisker
I'm sure you're right-financially I'll prob be able to afford kids when I'm about 60...Hmmm :rotfl:Like most people on here I wouldn't normally consider applying for a new card, but on my RBS online banking up popped this sort of approved offer for an RBS c/c & feeling a bit sheepish decided to fill it in anyway-not like I'm too worried about my credit rating :rotfl: When I finished it said it wasn't yet confirmed but also said they could offer me £6300 @ 0%?? So who knows, but now if they don't I shall feel horribly crushed!!
Would be a massive help to have a 0% for a bit! & yes I agree nicca-when I got this mbna card it was an almost respectable 19.9% and then just went up & up-pity I didn't know then about choosing to keep the current interest rate-really don't think they should be able to charge such ridiculous interest rates either. I've never even missed a payment-would love just to close it
Mini rant over....
Hope you had a lovely debt free dream happy

Scooby, before they raised your interest rate were you notified by letter? If you weren't then you might/should have grounds to complain. My understanding is they can't raise the rates until at least a year after you've had the card and then they have to give you a month's notice so you can make other arrangements.
I would like to go back to school but that will have to wait a while longer. In the meantime I'm achieving one of my objectives this year and have signed up for a women-only London to Brighton bike ride in June. I'm a tad scared as the furthest I've ridden is a a 26 mile round trip one wet and miserable Sunday morning. Fortunately we will return on the train. Looking forward to it despite the fearThe 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Thanks poorbabe
Sadly yes I probably was notified but was going through a 'head in the sand approach' to my debts at the time :doh:Wish of course I could try again now :rotfl:

@ ISOM, now that the UK finally has a PM, I too am waiting to find out how much more financial pain I'll be in as a working, childless, socially housed, debt-ridden female
.
My finances are (relatively) finely tuned for this and the next tax year and don't allow for a massive tax increase however delicately worded .
Still, getting used to the 'no money really means no money' lifestyle is helping to improve my cooking skills no end . Haven't given up on finding my own personal chef though as cooking is sometimes over-rated on those evenings when you get home late and cereal is the quickest option :rotfl:The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025.
