Hello! Could i join in here? Do i qualify as a long hauler?

Me and hubby started our DMP in March 2006 and originally had a debt free date of 2010 but life kinda got in the way and we had our beautiful and amazing little boy in 2008. :happyhear

We were recently looking at a debt free date of 2027!!!! _pale_ But thanks to my new job which i started in Feb we have upped our payments to CCCS and *fingers crossed* should be debt free by 2016 (but hopefully even sooner than that). :)

Thank you. I have actually been using this site since Jan 2006 but I found the first few years of my DMP such a struggle that i couldn't face coming onto the DFW board very often as it used to just make me more depressed about things.

However, i have just finished having a complete review of our finances and am really pleased that we are finally not being charged interest by any of our creditors any more and we actually really feel like we are getting somewhere now.
Our dream is to be debt free and be able to get our own home, with a mortgage (just like "normal" people). ;) Ultimatley we want to have another child but we just can't see how we can do that whilst renting a teeny 2 bed house.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I look forward to hearing more about everyone and hopefully offer some virtual support. :)

Wow Scooby -that's fab! You can actually get them debts down without the grrrrrrr interest making it an almost futile task! Well done :D

I thought you might all like to meet Lexi, the new addition to my parent's family, asfter Max the mad Lab went off to a better place. She's only 6 weeks so is still with her mummy at the moment but will be meeting her big grumpy brother Digger at the end of the month. Digger has been lost without his side-kick Max, so hopefully a puppy will spur him into action!

  • The scandal of it all. I told someone my debt figur and they said they wouldn't be able to sleep at night how rude! Anyway onwards and upwards :-)

    Morning all

Welcome Babyplum and congrats on the little one. You are making great strides on the debts. I reckon you'll have finished before me :T

Re interest rates on cc. I can't say I understand why the companies think it's a good idea to do that. Surely they understand these rises are more likely to cause people to default and will also turn away new business? I've now frozen my three cards due to the very same rises, although it wasn't a massive jump at the time.

In the days when I was very worried about my debts, I did think about jacking it in and going bankrupt on the grounds that I have no kids and live in social housing so I had/have little lose. Fortunately I haven't done that but it did help to put things into perspective as "it's only money" and I'm doing the best I can, so I've stopped worrying as much. Now I'm on a mission to clear my debts so I finally enjoy my money before retirement and Pension credits kick in :D

Ok so I have 18 years to go, but I have plans for my leisure time I'm not willing to wait that long to put into action. Who knows what state my body will be in by then? So a little pain now is bearable because I know what the end result will be
