About me...
Im 26 work full time, engaged (wedding on May 15th 2010) to my fiancee of seven years and we have two dogs. My fiancee is great with money and always has been, but poor him ended up with me! In total the debts are about £38k including what we're now taking out for the wedding - daft I know to get more debt when I've just signed up to be a DFW!! BUt we've committed to the wedding now.
THe debts are all over the shop, CCs and loans with loads of different providers. We're currently looking at how to consolidate them into lower APRs - such as with Tesco - we already have a loan with them so having made all the payments successfully are elgigible for a good rate of 7.9%. Both our credit ratings are ecxellent but most credit is in my name, so theyll hae to shift to my partner's now as I only have 8% free. We are lucky enough to earn decent money so we can afford the repayments, so are currenty weighing up the best ways to re jig the finances.
THis my first and last LbM and I'm determined to be good from now on - to the point where I'm not going to my friend's wedding in Cyprus in June because I cant afford it.
The plan is to start 2010 with the right frame of mind and make it a fresh start. I have a second job doing make up parties which is all bonus money, which will go straight into a savings account - for car servicing etc, the debts and hopefully to save to top up our money as we'd like to try for a baby next year and we won't bring enough home to cover our outgoings.
All in all, I'm BAD with money, but the point is Ive realised this and it's now about moving forward.
Hi to all, looking forward to being part of the group - sorry to ramble!
Hello!
I am really new to this but I just got married in August and had an amazing day! We really saved a lot of money by doing things slightly "differently" so if you want any wedding tips then give me a shout and I'll see if I can help!0 -

I havent posted on this thread for months, although my number is no 52 so been here a while! Next year is going to be MY year!At present my DFD is 2015, but I want to bring that forward. I currently owe about 28k and I make payments through CCCS each month at £330.
I have decided that next year I want to pay off approx 10k which would mean an extra £500 approx month and this would take at least 18 months off my DFD if not more as I will offer early settlement figures. This is going to be a challenge as the first quarter of the year i will have no spare money to throw at it due to family commitments but come the middle of April it will be all systems go!
So I am spending this month getting organised and planning, Jan Feb and March losing weight and tightening my belt and getting ready for the hard slog, whatever happens by the end of 2010 my debt will be at the very least under 20k.£23366/ £39206.92 DFD Nov 20160 -
Hi to all the new folk, and welcome back candyblue!!! Sounds like you've got positivity for everyone! Well done on the planning, and make sure you share all the secrets to finding that extra £500 a month!
This month is awful for us, but, its the end of the year, December is often like this, just pushing through and hopefully I'll be able to join those of you for whom 2010 will be a debt busting year!0 -
Hi all & welcome to the newbies! TLC 123 you sound like OH & I, with racking up debts on loads of different loans & CC's. Good luck on the DFW journey, with the help of Martin & the good people on here we will all get there in the end.
Well it's my day off again. Been a silly boy really by taking my day off on Saturday when I could have worked it for the extra cash! Taken today off today as OH & I are going to try & get all the Xmas shopping done, so we can try & relax a bit in December & also it will give us an idea of how much money we will have over the Xmas period IYKWIM! Well managed to pay off just short of £290 this month, with some transactions still to reach their destinations. Quite pleased with that, as we had to pay £175 in car tax. Don't know what this month will bring, but hopefully there won't be too much damage. Get a Xmas bonus of £100 in December + I usually get around £150 in Xmas tips & will be able to do some overtime so hopefully will not come out of December too badly. Thanks for reading & good luck all.DEBT AT LBM(1/7/07)-£35,052.19 DEBT (31/08/10) Average amount paid off P.M. £67.96 Paid off so far £2582.68(7.3%) Target to pay off in 2010 £2,340.14/£3,600 LH Supporter(165) DFD September 2110:eek:0 -
Welcome on board tlc123 and Introuble28 - the first step is often the biggest, and you'll find lots of support in these forums.
Well done with doing things slightly differently on your wedding day Introuble28. Someone else who has just got married is true27:We have managed the whole wedding on less than £1k - mostly due to managing our money better and thanks to this very challenge!! It feels so much better to make your money stretch, to make things yourself etc it really feels like its our wedding because we've made it so personal to us!! Definitely worth it mate, plus you get to wear a pretty dress
If you're looking for more tips tlc123, I'm sure she'll be more than happy to oblige.
I'm fairly new to the forums too, but I've found the following threads help me along and provide some fun and games along the way; feel free to join in:
The December NSD (No Spend Day) thread HERE, where you pledge a certain number of days in the month when you're not going to spend any money - we all encourage each other and it's a fun way to keep spending in check.
Additionally, there's the Weekly Spend Challenge thread HERE, where you pledge a maximum amount of spending money for the week that you hope to stick to; again, we all encourage each other and it's another fun way to keep your cash in your pocket.
Hope to see you there!:money: Proud to [STRIKE]be dealing with[/STRIKE] have dealt with my debts! :money:
