The long haul supporters thread...

Hi all,
just thought I'd pop in to say hello - last time I posted in here was June last year!
I felt like a little celebration because I've just passed the 20% / £40,000 mark. I'm alternating wildly between feeling chuffed and feeling intimidated by what's still left to pay
I've been to my brother-in-law's funeral today; he was only 59, worked hard all his life, lived extremely frugally, saved up for retirement, and never saw the benefit. Helps remind me that I can only do this if I strike a balance.
Just switched bank accounts, to get away from the Halifax's new overdraft charging regime; I was feeling proud of myself when I got a call from Capital One because I'd missed a payment. I pay by standing order, and it turns out I'd changed the last digit of the reference number to a zero - looking into it, I discovered that Excel doesn't handle numbers > 15 digits, but it doesn't warn you - it just changes them to zeroes!
So now, thanks to a silly mistake, I'm £12 down and I've got a blot on my credit record. (I pay everything else by DD, but at the time Cap One didn't do DDs and I never got round to setting one up).
Never mind - only a small kicking - on course for seeing the end of the debt by late 2012 :j
Well done everyone else for sticking at it - two years ago I never imagined I'd get to where I am now.Long-haul Supporters DFW 120

Been a few months since I posted here as well....oops
Still plodding on with debt reduction. I think I need to up my game next year a bit, with the money saving/cutting down as I think I've let things creep up on me a little this year.
I'm seriously looking at a complete career change. Would love to teach (science), its gotta be more rewarding than the job I have now. BUT (and its a big 'but') I need redundancy from my current employer, which would tide me over with training etc. There's rumours that this may be offered in the next few months (which I'd seriously look at taking).
In the meantime I think I'll be practicing cutting down etc to the minimum from the start of next year, to see if my thoughts on what I need to live on are right. Even if I don't get redundancy, I can save up for one heck of a holiday :rotfl:

Greetings one and all,
I think I need to join the long haulers list. My mounting debts have got the better of me and my family for the last time.
My road to recovery has recently begun (last Friday actually) and there is no looking back.
I'll create a signature soon with details of my debts and my target timescale to become debt free...
I'd also like to add that all the people I've interacted with so far on this forum are absolutely great and have already turned my life around! Thanks all!TOTAL UNSECURED DEBTS @ LBM £13,500 (NOV 2009), DEBT-FREE TARGET DATE - AUGUST 2011

Sorry kitty skim read earlier and missed your post but you get to be no 200 which is a good number me thinks! Welcome people. I hope that people will and do find support here - long haul is daunting and can seem unsurmountable at times but people like Jacks proove that with hard slog it can be done earler than we think possible! Re snowball have never done it - know I should but scares the life out of me! People have to make their own choices-same as with posting an soa...some do, some dont!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -

Wow I think there must be sommat in the air..just out of interest how did new people find us?!! I think 5 new posters in 24 hrs is a longhaul record! Not complaining in any way having said that! A word of encouragement if I may in updating the numbers noticed that the thread has been going quite a long time itself but it only seems days ago that I posted! So long haul doesent always feel like it but know that at that start it feels forever - as it does when you have pmt; birthdays; christmas etc...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! ps the snowbal calculator tells you how much time it will take you to pay your debt taking into account how much you can pay a month...I think the calculation is at whats the cost but having never done it myself cant be sure. Could someone post a linky please?!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0
