I am new to MSE (as a member anyway - been a lurker for quite some time). Can I put my name down as a long-hauler, I reckon it is going to be 10 years before I become debt-free but I WILL GET THERE!0

Hi Happytogetdebtfree,
Quick summary: 48, 7 kids (only 3 at home now though), debt just over 50k (from nearly £80k in Aug 06)!
I have just given up work to pursue my lifelong dream of going to Uni, I know it will slow down my DFW progress but hubby is supporting me in this and is working hard to keep the DMP going. We got into debt going on holidays we couldn't afford and living beyond our means. Like so many others on here, we have learnt from our mistakes and are very slowly getting ourselves straight.
I just thought it would make the journey a little less lonely if I tagged along with you lot. x0 -
Hello mumofseven, welcome to long haul!! Good luck with your debt busting, sounds like you've done so much already though!
HTGDF - I think that with the snowballing, on the screen its easy! Provides good motivation though!0 -

Hello ISOM,
I am going to do a Foundation Degree in Health. This means I will be in Uni for one day a week, keep a couple of days free for studying and hopefully find a part-time job that fits around that.
I worked in accounts for many years - I know that sounds ironic for someone in so much debt - too busy looking after other people's bank accounts I suppose, but now I would like to try something new. Mid-life crisis maybe - who knows?

Hi rambling tree
What does HTGDF mean?0 -
Lazy way of writing HappyToGetDebtFree! Peoples names are too long to type sometimes... hehe.
Foundation degree in Health sounds interesting, are you just doing it for interest or do you have a specific job in mind? I'm doing my PhD at the moment, I'm due to finish in about 8 months. Worried about finding a job when I'm done but fingers crossed something comes up!
Good luck with the job hunt!0
