My beloved God-daughter rang me last night to ask what I was doing for a holiday this year. "Nowt" I said as I've no holidays and, more importantly, no money
Turns out she, her mother (my best friend), her aunt and the children are off to Benidorm in August. First ever holiday as we/they tend to hit the Caribbean to visit family when we can scrape together the pennies. I think the sudden death of a close neighbour (in her 40s) was the turning point for my God-daughter's decision to start doing the things she wants to do (namely travel). She's also going to Dubai or Egypt after that and we've tentatively decided to go away toggether next year.
Interestingly enough, during this conversation, I didn't once think about putting the costs on a credit card. All I felt was a metaphorical 'jab' as a reminder to keep chipping away at the debts so I can eventually use my own money to travel
My ever evolving wish list includes some of the countries I want to go so and I think I'll put those on a separate list on my noticeboard.
Motivation is high, but I'll be a little sad when I wave them off the day before they go :cool:The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -

Hi everyone, hope all is well with everyone. We have just come back from very sunny Clacton on Sea. We did a short break with the Sun offer, a holiday for the princely sum of £38, cant be bad and the weather was glorious to boot. It worked out to be a very cheap break, as we just sat on the beach ( the weather helped) and we had put some money aside over the last couple of months. We've come back home feeling re-charged and back to work today boo hoo. Still plodding on and trying to keep PMA x0

well-done
Each birthday I do a 'personal' audit to see what I've done/achieved and what I want to do next. That helped me focus on the need to wipe out the debts once and for all and having some fun before I become eligible for Pension Credit when I retire in 19 years' time :rotfl::rotfl:
Assuming my DFD works out, I'll have been in debt more than half of my life:eek::o. I think that's more than long enough, although I've had some very good times with my credit cards/loans. Regrets? yes, but I've never beaten myself up about it as I knew what I was doing. Time to close the chapter on it now :T
