Wedding tomorrow so looking forward to getting out the house. Hoping I have it all ready just need to get a card (of all things to forget ). Paid £15 for pressie and only £6 for OH for shirt n tie. I did buy an £8 top that I moght wear. Girls might need cardies but will try to avoid. Not too expensive thankfully. Really looking forward to it rarely get to go to weddings and I am so bored at home that I am starting to shop online. So far £44 of two pairs of shoes not that I can wear then for at least a month!!

Should be back to work next week will probably be carp stuff but anything better than more daytime TV.

Well Done HTBDF on the claimback and overtime.

OH NO DD2s dress is ruined off to Tesco   at least its not a complete fortune.

I've been Money Tipped! Chutzpah Haggler
Hi everyone, I've not been on here for quite some time really but wanted to drop by as I've really fallen off the wagon since xmas, we have got our debts down from what was about £65k this time last year to around £37k now (it was about £34k though and I've been spending again!)

I guess when I started my DF journey last summer, I was soooooo motivated but restricted ourselves too much in the process, wanting to try and get everything paid off in a couple of years.

I think I realise now that yes we could do this but we would have no life and I don't think I can live like that so I am slowly starting to accept that it's going to take us a lot longer to pay off everything but at least we will have a life while we are doing it and not feel the pinch so much hopefully.

So I need to start again with a budget and a plan and tot everything up again. What we have done though is me and hubby each now have our own accounts, money from those goes into our joint account each month to pay all our household bills and money for food. What's left in our own accounts is for our own debts and spending on what we want. He is doing much better than me though as he always has loads left every month, I seem to have nothing but then I am overpaying my cards and he isn't (although I am then spending on them again and he isn't! there has to be a balance here somewhere)

someone give me a kick up the backside please and give me some advice to get my mojo back

swift kick coming your way millie...if its any consolation I have that particula tshirt a couple of times ovr...ie my lightbulb seems to blow every now and again!! So how to change the behaviour...can only give examples of what I do and maybe this will help...one is to have a budget with x amount for x in (ie I have a gb, fun budget, petrol budget and craft budget) seems to help focus the mind! Not to say it always works - blew the craft budget yesterday but will make that back in sales. Keep records of your spends...the lovely weezl did me a spreadsheet with pretty cols and I can see what I've made, whats in and whats out and when and am hoping that I will then be able to track the danger points (ie weekends, pmt time etc) and prepare for those times. Also its about having a balance but also not being too easy on yourself either! Longhaul is hard cos its over so long but you have to change the behaviour or youll end up where you strarted before long. So its about finding cheap fun and thrills. Ie I have wanted a bedside table for ages but now refuse to spend the 70 min that was needed so hunted for months and months and got one for 50p at a car boot yesterday and am making it beautiful which in total will cost me under a tenner. Cannot tell you how happy I was when blokie accepted my cheeky 50p bid! Plus hunting for cheapie things means it takes longer, keeps you busy and you spend less but get more (in my opinion now) satisfaction of finding the find cos it took effort and time!
I think for me its also about being honest with myself when I'm spending too much and ask myself why I need to splurge...for me books etc were a huge weakness and now I get them from library so can chop and change - great for crafting as you can experement cheaply!
Anyway hope that helps...maybe also ask yourself why you want to be debt free? For me saving over 70 a month in interest helps! Oh yes and set targets works for me...shortish ones that are clear and work for you!

  • that's great advice isom I like the positive attitude let's just keep going and taking it steady don't set unachievanle goals we need to live and most importantly try not to increase debt even it take forever we will get there x x

    Look at Zopa.com

Instead of banks lending it is ordinary people. Basically hundreds of people get together and put in small amounts (£50/£100/£200) which add up to the loan amount you are looing for. The APRs tend to be a little higher (11-14%) but if they are suitable for you then you take the loan and the banks get cut out completely.

Not sure if I will get what I'm looking for but its worth a try!

  • Yes oh is on zopa but since we cant get a 0% credit card i think its unlikely we can get a loan from zopa shame id like to lower the interest rate on some of the credit cards it would help.... but life is life eh when we are debt free i wont need a flaming loan :P so thats something to look happy about :D x
