2.5 years to pay off that large amount ???

I'm very impressed and I shall certainly follow your journey with interest.

I also want to start getting some money put aside for my retirement. I know its about 20 years away (unless I get kicked out early), and I am in the fortunate position of having a 'final salary' pension from work that I'm paying into. But I'd like to do more than just exist when I retire. I want to be able to know that I can pay my bills and still have some little treats.

So I reckon that if I get a move on and sort myself out, then I shall be in a better position to do just that.

    Morning everyone.

I thought I'd pop in and give a partial update as I need to amend my signature with all the figures rather than just the FD and Egg ones

My overall debt has crept up again but I'm still making small overpayments on the credit cards. I know the figures will eventually go down but it is a little disheartening at the moment. The only bright light is the FD loan as it's not possible to increase it  .

I've had a letter from my bank reviewing my overdraft facilities on my two current accounts. I didn't read it completely as I got home late last night but this morning I sent them a secure message asking them to reduce the complete total by £100 to £200. My aim is to reduce it further by another £100 by mid next year. I've always had an overdraft and it's taken me til this year to realise the money isn't mine and is a debt also, so have been reducing my reliance on it slowly but surely

Money-wise it's going to be a tighter than usual month so my hope of replacing my tv will have to wait a while longer. To be honest, it's not that bad if you can live with pinks, greens and greys rather than 'proper' colour tv viewing :D, plus I need to get my bike serviced to get me through the winter commute to work.

Keep plugging away everyone we WILL be successful eventually :T

Hi all, debts haven't gone up but interest rate on our Halifax OD has, from 13.35% to 19.5% & it is shocking how far that has knocked our DFD back. Done a bit of debt shifting onto other ODs & CCs but it still doesn't read well. Had a quick look at comparing LOB CC's & BT's 6.9% is about the lowest out there that we could find. Going to find half an hour tomorrow & apply for one, in the hope that we are accepted. Not going to let ourselves get down about things, but it is the kick up the aris that we both need to move up a gear or two in our quest to be DF! Thanks for reading & back tomorrow!!

Well I've finally updated my sig in full and am depressed to see the actual amount of my, now increased, debt :o

I'm not going to beat myself up about it too much, as I knew what I was doing and I also know that from January, I'll be doing all I can to throw extra money at it.

    However......... oh hell!

  • aww hugs poorbabe - at least youve bitten the bullett and added up and can now more on fully informed, hopefully with some lessons learned along the way? If its any consolation mine is still double yours!! (not a nah nah na nah na fact to be happy with but hope you feel better for it!). Ltm please think long and hard about consoladating - at least with a cc the fact that it is a cc makes you pay it off quicker while with a loan theres no incentive (unless like egg loan you can overpay?)...just very aware that its loans that got me where I was financially and just wish I'd paid stuff off as never did - just spent again...know its hard though but a kicking myself now - the interest on one loan alone is 8000!!!!! Could have got a brand new car with that!

  • Hi ISOM, I have an egg loan how do you overpay when i am in that position id like to bring the conract to terminate a few months earlier :D you are right about loans not always an incentive to pay them off sooner ... credit cards on the other hand im chipping away at lol im feeling fed up it must be that time of year eh :D see what tomorrow brings hehe xx
