Hello one and all and welcome to any new bods. Feeling better than I was, although nothing has really changed, just had a week off work, which is always good for improving one's mood, although I have got a stinking cold, as well OH and Ds suffering as well. just hope it has cleared by Monday. Marg b I like your 8 year plan, definitely something to think about. I think I am going to talk to OH to get an improved debt busting plan in place, may help to alleviate the low times. Have a good weekend x0

Hiya guys,
Not been on for a while and things have been going quite well, I am trying to clear my mortgage as soon as. After clearing all other debts, I have continued to work the same long hrs, but am finding it hard as after doing this just over 2yrs, I feel I need a break but am determined to keep up the over payments. Trouble is, I've got into the habit of not spending anything as much as poss, and think I need to loosen the reins a little, but don't know how, fear still grips me when ever I think of it! so here I am.(Sorry to go on guys, but feel safe on here please don't take this the wrong way, I have been at this for a long time and will continue for a long time too, just like you guys are.)
Hugs to everyone, keep at it and you WILL get there in the end, we all will.
I will go back and catch up on posts.

I've just had a timely reminder of the consequences of my debt and the impact that it has on others so will continued with renewed vigour! Its getting to the point that I hate it and all that it entails so wil try and channel that energy into getting it paid off rather than bimbling along...so a reminder of its impact on my life which I hope will help others;
1) takes up all my spare money
2) means despite having good salary cant go on hol
3) my mum helps me out when she should be going on lovely hols
4) I have to do loads of extra work to pay it off
5) People think less of me for it because of my stupidity in getting into so much debt
6) Its like a prison sentence and means that my life is not as free as it would be if I wasnt in debt.
7) Debtbusting is exhausting
8) I loose sleep and dream of debt related things...
9) I have to put much more time into making things which can be draining when I dont have time
10) I'd love to be able to treat people more to things but cant cos I just cant afford it
Thats it for now and I recognise that there are benefits - I've found you lot, made good friends, am more giving of time etc and have learned what is precious but still....so there ya go. Anyone want to join me with renewed vigour?
So impressed with your list and statement have sent it to my desktop to remind me why I never want debt again, thankyou ISOM Hugs to you hon xxlost 3stin 4mnths GC nov£90/£51.65 July£100/£97.67 Aug£90/£18.59LBM Nov05 Loan £4910.65 Paid April07 sealed pot challenge#256Nov06 CC £2,590.56 Paid aug07 + Savings07/08 Night Owl 22#Mortgage £87,000/£84,000/ £82,261.00/£81,785.30 £80,268/£75402.00/£71229.15 DFW NERD 987 Long Haul member 125 debt free 24th aug 070 -

aww thanks hwga...despite best intentions this month has been dire and have finished o/d but realised that I lost 2 days pay last month due to strike and hadnt taken that into consideration...will take a while to catch up and am hoping that they will sort the pay offer and give us the back payments one of these days & I'll then have caught up!! Wel will get there in the end but can understand hwga why you may find ir hard to loosen up...how about a compromise in making overpayments and also allowing a bit more in the fun budget?! Just need to be careful to avoid slippage as I do think collectively we have a tendency to think oooo I can go shopping...one way to help may be to write down how much time is off your mortgage when you make overpayments? Mind you youd never spend then - I worked out if I paid an extra 20 a month it took years off my mort!!
How are others doing? Payday for me next monday and it feels like a very long month this month...probably cos I aint got no dosh!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hi everyone
I committed to this thread a few days back and have been kidding myself since last year that I have been dealing with my debt but really haven't at all and looking back the debt is at the same level or worse than it was 12 months ago
I have a good job with lots of high paid overtime and hubby works but by a combination of wacking things on the credit card and not paying it off, living beyond our means and me getting into online gambling we have run up massive debts.
I know this will look horrendous to some people - as we have debts (not including the mortgage) of almost £95k. Saying that - we have combined gross income of over £70k per annum.
Still, it is way too much and I can't really belive how we got ourselves into this. I realised last year there was a problem but haven't really got my head round it and then this year when I tried to get a new mortgage deal with NR, and then realised that no one else would lend to us with that level of debt, that I had been really stupid.
I always thought ny debt was manageable and switched from 1 0% offer to another and then suddenly ran out of cards and available balances. I am now stuck paying really high interest on some of well over 20% and let's not even talk about MBNA!
I have worked out a SOA and doen some really positive things like sell my car and am now using the bus, cut down the shopping and finally and DEFINITELy stopped putting even £10 into any form of online gambling and bingo.
I did the snowball and it shows my debt free date as 1/8/13 - so that isn't actually as bad as I thought and we will have paid off £14k in12 months time.
My aim though is to save even more where I can - have become a great couponer and mystery shopper and will take any extra overtime going with a view to getting this paid off even sooner.
My aim for this month is not to spend any more on any cards at all (although I may have to put some urgent dental work on one - but that is a necessity) and to try and have something left in the accounts at the end of the month which I can then use to pay off the cards.
I'm going to count my LBM as today as I have finally done the snowball and it isn't as horrendous as I thought - less than 5 years is quite positive and I feel in control at last
Off to update my signature and start a diary
