  • Hi everyone, not posted on here for a while but will have to read back through to catch up, i'm having an off day, I am sick of all my spare cash going on paying off debts and it just seems never ending, I'm mostly upset because I am in a well paid job with bonuses and a car and I can't apreciate any of it at the moment because it is all being thrown at debts, we aren't any better off than we were 10 years ago when you look at what disposable income we have

but I guess at least I have the money coming in to pay loads off each month at the moment so I have to be positive hey?

but yes, I could do with a challenge of some sort, something to help me not feel so stuck in limbo

Welcome both of you.If you can tell us a bit about you - its easer to support people when you know about them and how/why they got int debt etc...I for instance was just incredibly wasteful with money, didnt have a budget and spent with what can only be decribed as wild abandon....alas it will take longer to pay it off than it did to spend it but whats done is done and despite it all I dont regret the last fling which was taking my mum to new york for a week - when I pay my debts off hope to do the same but this time with actual money that I have...full circle!
Yes marg it does make me feel virtuous but then I also flog it so make money too!
ltm...I can understand why you were cross - I would have been and would have said no tbh - after all asking someone the day before too much and I think a bit unfair - hope the reason for wanting you to babysit and loose so much money was of vital importance!!! Hope you sort it though and are speaking to mrs ltm again!
Had planned to go to the allotment today but its chucking it down! Instead I will make jam and prepare my operation christmas child box...some of course will arge us fw'ers cant afford it but my feeling is that my debt is my fault and will be paid off - theirs isnt their fault and many will live a life of poverty forever so this is my way of sending love to just one child this year...makes me feel good plus an opportunity for a bit of shoppling lol!

Thanks for your reply ISOM. Yes we are talking again but there are a few things that I want to say to OH when the time is right(if ever there is a right time:rolleyes: ) It was really important to be fair that someone looked after Niece but I think things came to a head, as we do seem to look after her alot more than I would like & OH doesn't like saying no. Don't get me wrong, she is no trouble at all & we also do our fair bit of looking after Nieces & Nephews on my side of family & to be fair, both families have helped us out in the past, but sometimes it is nice to have our own space, especially at weekends after working all week. OH sometimes seems to get the wrong end of the stick, thinking that I don't like looking after her, which isn't the case at all & it can be quite frustrating trying to get my point across IYKWIM. I try to tell her that looking after any of the kids should always be on our terms & I think that after this time, I will have to get my point across properly, as I want looking after the kids to be a pleasure, which it is much of the time, rather than a bind. Thanks again for reading & it makes me feel a little better knowing that I wasn't totally in the wrong.

  • Not sure if I am right either ltm! Just posting an alternative view - maybe just chat about how you want to spend time as a family sometimes without the outside intrusions...that you value that time and maybe were trying to say that but didnt communicate it as well as you could have done because you were cross?
re a challenge...umm ok...how about trying to spend a month with getting needs not wants? I for one tend to slip because I feel I need a reward (ie buying something!! anything!!) for being "good" but the reward for paying of debts should be pay more debt and then be debt free and glouriously happy! That is great until I see sommat I want and then I tend for "forget" that I'm not meant to be spending and justify (with some amazing excuses!!) why I get what I want, rather than need!! In order to have some balance though I would propose a SINGLE genuine reward for sucess - ie what do you want (of limited monetary value!!) that will help you achieve the month of needs spending? For me I think a facial would be sheer heaven...its about 40 so not cheap but I PROMISE I wont have it unless I do a month - payday tomorrow to payday next month (actually 5 weeks me thinks as its a loooong month!) of need spending! Anyone else want to join me. Not sure I explained that v.well so ask if youre not sure what I meant!! Anyone else want to join me?

Well things did come to a head last night & it didn't help that we both had alcohol. Tried to get my point across but OH got the wrong end of the stick. She said that she would have done the same for my side of the family, which she would, but I'm more mad with OH's Brother & his GF for putting her in a position where she gave up her extra shift. Told my Mum the ins & outs of why they needed OH had to look after Niece & my Mum agreed with me, although she obviously told me not to tell OH that, as she didn't want to get involved & make matters worse. Anyway what's done is done & we are slowly getting back to normal. Trouble with OH is she would do anything for anyone & sometimes she overcrosses the mark between being kind & helping out, to being taken advantage of. So next time I am not happy with the arrangements I think I'll p1ss off down the pub:rolleyes: ! Only kidding, that would probably make matters worse! Anyway had some good news as mortgage payments are down by £23 so that will go straight into paying off more debt. Good luck with your challenge ISOM. The thing that works for us is we split half of any extra overtime money into paying off debts(on top of what we already pay IYKWIM) & half into saving for things, that way we do feel that we aren't missing out too much. That said now winter is around the corner, it gives us an excuse not to venture out too much, so we aren't too tempted into spending alot on nights out etc(must begetting old:D ). All the best.

Well done to you ISOM, you are doing so well. Hoping for a good November & plenty of overtime up until Xmas to hopefully get us under £30k. Should clear our awful 19.5% OD on OH's payday next week so onto the next high interest CC @ 15.9%. Not heard anything on whether we've been accepted for 5.9% LOB CC but hopefuuly hear whether we have been accepted sometime this week, which will enable us to BT 15.9% CC.
