More ((((hugs)))) can you query the dd with the bank at all?
It is correct what we owe Wendy as we have been only paying £8 a month for the last 6 or 7 months. Just don't like the way they took it all in one go without notifying us,it's like it's their way of saying " you're not our customer anymore so pay up & s*d off." I am staying put with e-on now,not that they wouldn't do the same, but nothing seems to run smoothly when we change companies:( !

  • It may be correct but I still would tell the bank you didnt authorise it though. That is a lot in one go without any real warning.

Hi everyone, I hope you're all ok and coping with the stress of long-term debts!

I'm looking forward to tomorrow, as I'll make a debt repayment which puts me under the 39k mark for the first time! As I started at £40,777 when I joined this board, I'm quite pleased with my progress!:p

Isn't it strange how 40k sounds so much more than 39k? Weird - maybe it's just me that thinks that way!

You're right Wendy, but I might as well leave it now. Another £47 came out today for my gas bill in one go too, when I was paying £30.50 a month. Not making excuses for British Gas,but they did send me a letter a few weeks ago asking me to phone them to discuss settling the account, but didn't phone them as I thought that they would just try to talk me into staying with them,so I guess I am partly to blame, although they never warned me that they would take the lot in one go! It's paid now,I've cancelled DD's & we are now with e-on & can make a fresh start. Our DD's with e-on are higher too so we won't fall behind again. Plus we must get a Tesco clubcard because we will get points with every pound we spend on our bills. Thanks for the advice Wendy,it really is appreciated, but we wold have had to pay them back sooner or later anyway. If it had put us over our overdraft limit then it would have been a different story

I know what you're saying vinternet. We are really trying to crack the £30k barrier,as it will feel alot more like we are getting somewhere. Still pleased that we have paid off £2.5k in less than a year but really want to get below £30k asap.

Do any of you ever take your eye off the ball and lose control of monthly spending? I feel like I have slipped this month.

I have done really well and paid off about a third of my debt since last September but this month I feel quite low emotionally and have just drawn money out willy nilly. Usually I transfer my spends to another account and keep rigidly within my budget.

I met a guy that I really liked and took the plunge and asked him out (posted on another thread here) but he didn't email me back and it has made me feel quite low. I haven't felt inclined to get onto online banking and sort my money out. I can pull it back and have probably only spent £100 more than intended and I won't go overdrawn, I just feel mad at myself.
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time

Don't worry about it. Men just have a different idea of timeliness for these sorts of things.

Hi ZTD, are you male (one of these strange species) or female (have experience of this sort of thing!). If I've lost control of my spending at this stage.. just imagine what it would be like if I started seeing him and had to buy lingerie etc ;);)

Hi, I think most of us take our eye off the ball now & again, after all,we're only human! We had a bit of a blowout over the weekend & spent more than intended, but i guess it's no good beating ourselves up about it, what's done is done. I don't think spending a few quid extra now & again will do too much harm,as DFW's most of us have learned from each other the basics of budgetting well & most of us also know that we are never going back to the days where we are splashing out £100's a week on our CC's. Good luck with your date if he stays in touch,if not, then as they say there's plenty more fish in the sea. Chin up & enjoy life, all the best!
