Yep - just checked pay slip and they've just bumped up on this year's scale which means there will definitely be a bit more of an increase at some point :money: no idea when though. Hopefully they can sort it out without strikes, but if not, strike ballot doesn't end til the end of October, then there may be actual strikes, so I suppose it might be Christmas before they sort it out.

Still, I know how fortunate I am to have a steady job at all, let alone a pay rise each year, and a decent union :j So I am not complaining, not one bit - just being impatient about wanting to update my spreadsheets :rotfl:

I could put that impatience to good use doing YNAB I suppose...

Cheery, thanks for that description of what your matched betting involves - I never did horse racing or tennis either, the rules seem to be completely weird, so I'm really glad to hear that even with those profits, you're picking and choosing.

Will you have to go on strike yourself if it comes to it? Hope not :( though strikes seem to be shorter these days, still not good for the strikers :( though I've no idea what's involved, of course.

And I hope you feel lots better today.

  • The stuff about MB was really useful, thanks.

My experience is that the increments go through automatically but the pay rise does not until it is agreed, and it is then backdated (Universities for me). Our 'cost of living' pay rise was inevitably late and backdated, but always gratefully received by me as I was top of my grade so didn't get the increments. The tragedy was that the savings they made on the wages for strikes went some way towards funding the pay rise anyway.

University here too redo so same situation. I think for the last strikes ours put most of the savings towards student support.

And yes, I'll be striking if it comes to that - one out, all out and all that. We benefit greatly from the work the union has done so it's only fair. Inconvenient all round though of course

Absolutely! I went to Northampton about ten years ago to do some genealogy research, and the town hall people were on strike  I went up and had a chat with them and they said that fortunately for me the records I was interested in were in another building, that was 100% open. Because it was *them* that told me, I went along - I'd never, never cross a picket line, no matter what the issue was. Unless the far right were trying to get Donald Trump to take over the UK or something

    Evening MSE Chums :hello:

Well, in a bid to try to get organised (AGAIN) I am instituting a weekly plan, which involves doing financial things on Mondays :money:

So this evening I've checked all MB accounts (and - thank goodness - have the anticipated amount of dosh in there :j )

Also done YNAB FINALLY - honestly, I SO need a kick up the backside to USE THE APP and reconcile regularly, it was in a right old mess! HAd to put £178 through the 'budget fiddling' line in my budget :o  :rotfl:

Reminder for myself... Post Office savings account now only has £209 in it, so I can't trickle another £500 into the regular savers next month - this will have to come from the current accounts associated with the savers (which have higher interest than the post office, but lower than their own regular savers).

Must also remember the builders are going to want £5100, probably before the end of next month

Need to do a bit of thinking about how I track the matched betting stuff. According to the tracker I've got £3900 in there, but the account I use already had some in to start with, and then I withdrew some to overpay the mortgage so it's all got a bit confused. However, it seems that between the bank account I use and all the betting shop accounts, there is, in fact, £3900 in there - so from now on I'm going to treat it as if we overpaid from the normal current account, and all the MB dosh is still intact.

Clear as mud, yes? I know what I mean even if nobody else does :rotfl:

Question is - where is the builder's dosh going to come from? Will need to check the other current accounts to see what's easy access - don't want to withdraw from regular savers if I don't have to.

But that's all a task for next week's Monday Finances day :money:
  • Don t let the current Accounts associated with the regular savers go below the max limit as generally they have a higher interest rate than the savers and the interest is paid each month which believe would make it a false economy to move it. I am not the best mathematician in the world so perhaps others who also have these accounts would be able to offer a view? My TS B current is a higher interest rate than the savers for example

Ah that's useful to know TDQ, I'll check before I do anything. Got to pull £5k from somewhere anyway for the builder so something is inevitably going to be less than ideal for a while!

I do need to remember the rules for the current accounts though - one of them has to have £1k a month going in and the other £500 - I do a transfer from one back to the other each month but obviously that means they both have to have at least £1k in whatever else happens!

Right, working at home today, and Mr Cheery is going out, so I can't blame him for distractions today... Fortunately it's rainy and vile out there so I'm not remotely tempted to sit in the garden or go for a walk :rotfl:

Tonight is Admin Tuesday :j A few things to do...

    * reply to bloke about scything next year (or not - he's decided some personal 'rules' about what he will and won't do, which is fine - but they make it rather complicated and expensive to use him so I'll be finding a (probably non-scythe) alternative)

    * find a few numbers for gas fitters - we'll need to have the gas pipe capped off in the kitchen before the building work starts

    * put the builder in touch with the buildings regulations man

    * check through emails to make sure I've not forgotten anything

    * 10 minutes of filing - there's a teetering pile of bank statements and nonsense in the study...

But before that - work!
