You may think your oven is dirty, but I doubt you really know what dirty is. I thought mine was dirty, well it is over 20 yrs old & I certainly haven't cleaned it more than twice. Although to be fair to myself I do work on keeping it clean, like making sure pizza can't drip on the base of it etc. But a friend was kind enough to give me her 1 yr old oven when she moved in with her friend. It is still in the garage because it needs a major clean, so much that I am thinking of getting a company in to do it. And I thought she was really picky but obviously I am a lot more picky - who would have thought it, certainly not me.

I do have a tray in the bottom to save the oven itself, it’s true. I definitely think you should get someone to clean the oven for you Badmemory - it’s such a horrible job and more thankless if it’s not even your mess. I don’t think it’s that expensive - I looked into it when our move was imminent.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I don’t think it’s that expensive - I looked into it when our move was imminent.I must confess to not even having opened the oven door yet. The outside has red all splashed down it & the top is so sticky with grease Yuck. I suspect that the last couple of months before she moved out the boyfriend was doing all the cooking & like so many men of his age just don't "see" the mess.I too line the grill pan with a thicker than usual foil & have a large tray in the bottom of the oven covered with foil. So it is just a case of removing the foil from time to time. I have had one of those oven liners for some time but I really need to give it a good clean before I use then. Perhaps I may get a discount for having 2 cookers cleaned!5

Yikes to unusually dirty ovens - my oven smells of chocolate quite a lot
it's all the frugal brownies I make
and I've put too much oil in the baking tin underneath the greaseproof paper, I think, quite a bit has gone into the tin at the bottom. Two years since I had the new kitchen installed, no oven cleaning has happened in that time, I can now happily confess!
When I first arrived here, I cleaned the *old* oven, and the reaction of my lungs made me read the health warnings on the bottle of oven cleaner I'd bought. Never again! Scraping, soaking, soap and water, those chemicals are never touching anything I use for food again!2023: the year I get to buy a car6 -
