Oh dear, sorry!! 😮😮😂😂
Kitchen geezer replied - he hadn't realised granite guy hadn't been, most apologetic. Said if we want to leave the key outside, he's happy to come over and be here when he turns up.
I've not replied yet. I'm sick if thinking about it all. Already said it's fine if it's January when I'm working, and I might just stick to that - I don't really want to have to be thinking about it at all over Christmas. There's also part of me wants one of us to be here when he turns up, in case he does something stupid like tries to fill it with black epoxy (unlikely, but at this point I don't trust anyone not to be stupid!)
There's something tempting about having everyone out of the house before the new year though! 🙄8 -
Oh my, Gillian McKeith was really something, wasn't she!
Cheery, I can *absolutely* understand you not wanting to think about, and yet wanting to be there when they lift a finger. Maybe it *is* best to leave it to January, as you thought? It's Christmas Eve tomorrow, and you're both really tired ... kitchen geezer sounds nice, but your schedule is more important than his.2023: the year I get to buy a car8 -
I think you’re right about parking it until January, and also to being there when it’s done, just for your own peace of mind. Maybe leave it until after Christmas now then get the kitchen geezer to liaise with granite guy perhaps, if that’s something he can do? I suspect kitchen geezer is very aware that at the moment this is reflecting badly on their hard work, which might work in your favour!Gillian McKeith - good lord there’s someone who without question deserved her fade into obscurity! Hmm Gillian McKeith! I had forgotten about her!! Less said the better I think!
I think I agree with the others Cheery. You need to enjoy Christmas without constantly being on edge worrying about the kitchen/granite guy. Easier said than done I know but leave it til after Christmas, you'll have a bit of time then to decide whether or not you do actually want to be there when they come.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2007 -
Thanks starnac, I've taken all your advice and told them I want to leave it til the new year now.
Part of my stupid temporary-filling-over-a-temporary-filling has just fallen out 🙄 No pain fortunately, it was mostly just to cover up the exposed (and slightly moving) root canal filling. The dentist did say it wouldn't last... Best not cause any trouble over Christmas! The front bit is still attached thank goodness, but that probably won't last long...
Not much point going back to the dentist - it didn't hurt so they didn't want to do anything to it last time but I insisted. Got an appointment to sort it properly on 19th Jan.6 -
Fun and games here. We were in Sainsburys when Mr Cheery got an odd text - "please enter your test result into the NHS contact tracing website". Er, what?
Quick check of my emails confirmed that yes, the test he had done for the ONS study on Tuesday was positive 🙄 (the text didn't actually say that!)
Obviously we hastened out of Sainsburys and home, and he's now isolating til new year's day. I'm negative, so have nipped out to try and get more lateral flow tests - the pop up site in the park has gone, and I rang all 8 pharmacies in town and none had any left 🙄 Did manage to order some in the post though, and we've got enough for me to do one every day for the next few days as suggested.
We've got plenty of food, but he's feeling quite sorry for himself (not ill, just feeling sorry for himself) so I'm going to go and get a few more treats and then we'll likely both just hunker down til the new year, and maybe even get a bit of decorating done 🙄😂
Fortunately we didn't have any concrete Christmas plans, but we were going to have my family round to sit round our massive kitchen table at some point, so that will have to be postponed.
And the granite man won't be able to come now anyway even if he wants to 🙄😂
Merry Christmas!9 -
Never rains eh Cheery. We just had to pop out as my son and his girlfriend were going out for Christmas dinner but it’s only a tiny place and one of the two owners has just tested positive and had to shut the restaurant so had to go and double our rations so they can come here. On the plus side Aldi had reduced all their fresh stuff by 75% so got a very good value meal Hope Mr Cheery gets off lightly with symptoms8

Oh Cheery! I'm sorry that Mr C has tested +ve, glad he's feeling OK though. Maybe some downtime will do you both good and - as you say - you don't have to worry about the granite guy for a while now!
Son and his GF had the plague last week but have been able to go ahead with their Christmas plans (son came down here yesterday, GF flew back to Eire today). We were supposed to be going to BFF's this evening but, having felt rough for days, she has now tested +ve (and doesn't feel up to it anyway) so we are going out for a meal instead.
I hope everyone here has an enjoyable Christmas. It's not difficult!
