Hasn't the electrician insisted on a new distribution (?) box?

Odd socks made me chuckle - I think you should leave it labelled as that but get some coloured pens and make it stripey too in honour of our very lovely mutual odd sock wearing pal!Hurrah to working appliances too, and I *think* that hard-wired smoke alarms have to have backup batteries which need changing every so often? (But not, obviously, as often as regular battery ones) Could be wrong there though! 😁
Anyway - what is the first celebratory cooking you’ll be doing in your fabulous new kitchen now you have a hob, oven etc?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Oh darn it, you've reminded me I forgot to ask about the smoke alarm batteries! 🙄 Plonker. We've still got the box though so I can just read the instructions.
Badmemory, no need for a new distribution box (or whatever they're called). We've not had major electrical work done, and the box itself is quite new and still meets current regs. Just had a few more sockets installed on the existing rings.
Electrician invoice was a bit less than I'd been led to believe - £1600 rather than £1760 so that was a nice surprise! Got my invoice and receipt as requested 😁 He's also put a switch in my study rather than the stupid dimmer thing which means I can actually turn the lights on in there now! It's still full of stuff, but this will at least making clearing it up a bit easier...6 -
Good - at least you won't have to have one of those "oh but" conversations with the next electrician that needs to enter your house.

Bit of a palaver this evening. Mr Cheery got zapped by a temporary speed camera a few weeks ago, and with all the kerfuffle last week with the electric being off, hadn't opened the letter... turns out the last day for booking a course was tomorrow.
Managed to book an online one, thank goodness, although not til February. In the process, we discovered that (a) he's lost his driving licence (we've now ordered a new one), (b) he hasn't registered his bank card for paying for things online, and (c) I hadn't paid for the car tax, which ran out last week 😮😮
Pair of us losing the plot 🙄
Still. A minor triumph this evening - we've actually managed to get me set up again in my study! So exciting - I've been in a corner of the temporary kitchen for months and it's been a ridiculous mess. I've got an important all day work meeting tomorrow and I really wanted a more decent backdrop 😂😂 Can't say it's the tidiest it's ever been, but it's most definitely the tidiest room in the house right now!!8 -
Oops to the car stuff Cheery - might something like I used to do over on the other place help with dates for stuff like that? A post or even a notes entry on your phone detailing everything so you can check at a glance what’s due when? It’s just about the only way I’d keep up with things for two cars, I know that! 😆
That’s brilliant about the study too - and mentally that’s going to be another step towards feeling as though the house is starting to really take the shape you want it!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I'm not surprised that something got missed given the upheaval you've been through lately Cheery. Glad it's all been caught by you just in time.
I diarise reminders for MOTs etc. but DH has an app called Caura that keeps a record - I think you input your reg nos. and you can do tax and MOT through it as well as pay tolls etc. But maybe you have a perfectly good system, it just got missed because of the chaos!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Definitely a triumph to have you set up in the study! Having your space back with help you feel more settled again!
Glad to hear you caught the driving related items just in time! You've had so very much going on, one or two things are bound to fall by the wayside.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! I do indeed usually have a perfectly good system, but you're all right, something was inevitably going to be lost in all this chaos!
Long day today. Started work at 7am to prepare for a meeting, then in meeting from 9 until about 10 mins ago, and now back to work 🙄 SO many deadlines missed this week 🙄🙄 Last week was a complete fiasco between power cut and strike 🙄
Hey ho, it has all been MUCH easier now I'm back in my proper study! With a giant desk! And a nice view behind me! And no piles of kitchen equipment t and overflowing compost containers in view 😮😂😂
Had a delivery of some carpet tiles earlier to cover part of the dining room floor. We ordered green, looked at them in the shop (and bought a single one to check colour) then ordered online. The picture didn't look the same online, but it was the same reference number and name, and colours on the Internet are often weird... but no, they've sent grey, despite it saying green on the order 🙄 Fortunately Mr Cheery caught the driver so sent them back with him. Who knows when the others will arrive!
Nothing else to report I don't think. Need to measure how high we need the plinth so there isn't a gap under the kitchen cupboards 🙄 and then text the kitchen fitter so he can sort it out.
Mr Cheery has been out today and bought new light bulbs for my study - the old ones all broke one by one, and our replacements were ordered online and cheap and nasty and horrid. These are a lovely bright glow rather than like interrogation lights, soI now have all the light I need in here to stay awake 😂
Best get back it. Geezer is coming tonight to do a boiler service - let's hope he doesn't find something stupid wrong and cut us off 🙄6
