Cheery's country living adventure

Good to see you've been hard at work eating those frogs Cheery!
It always feels so good to get things checked off the list!
4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)New projection - 14 YEARS 8 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 16 mths)Psst...I may have started a diary!6 -
Certainly does. I can definitely feel myself relaxing ever so slightly as we make progress, even though each thing seems to generate a run of further small things that need doing.
Another traumatic incident with the chicken medicine this afternoon - we're going back to trying to bribe her with food tomorrow, I don't think ether of us can handle the possibility of doing something wrong and hurting her. It was SO easy the first day as well 😕 But SO very upsetting the last two days.
Anyway, ringing the vets to check in tomorrow so will see what the deal is.
Running friend cancelled sadly, so Mr Cheery and I will go for a walk. Shame really as I could have done with a natter with a pal, but never mind.
Won't get much financial stuff done tonight. We'll go for a walk, and then need to clean up a bit - the aftermath of chicken bribery is scattered around the house in the form of oats, pieces of apple, dishes of water and chicken droppings spread across several rooms 😮 and then we've promised ourselves at least a couple of hours before bed where we do NOT talk about cars, kitchens, chickens, money, or anything else practical (maybe we'll just sit in silence because our entire lives seem to revolve around those things right now!)8 -
Sorry to hear you're having a difficult time medicating the chook. I had a similar challenge with Sophia Lor-hen. She was very poorly but struggled and struggled when I tried to syringe medicine into her. She struggled so hard that she broke a toe! I was devastated 😥
I expect you've tried everything but just in case - wrapping her in a towel can help to keep her still and mine would take medicine in greek yoghurt.

Aw Fortune, that must have been awful for both of you 😕 I dread them ending up hurt when they struggle. They are indeed fond of yogurt - but have ended up very suspicious of all treats when you try to just give them to ONE chicken... 😕My friend suggested mashed banana which we'll try tomorrow, although they've never had banana before so I'll see if they like it first before I waste medicine in it!5

Cheery, I'm glad that the dentist went well and hope that you are healing well.
Sorry that medicating the hen is such an ordeal for you all
What a pity that your pal cancelled so you didn't get your run, especially as you didn't manage a decent bike ride either!
Oh and I went out for a short while this evening to look at the 'strawberry moon' rising over the sea. Managed to see it before it was hidden by cloud but don't have a good enough camera to get decent photos. It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
'Wonder' - to feel curious.3 -
oh, sounds lovely! I confess I forgot about the strawberry moon, but it was dull and overcast here anyway. I do mostly spot the moon if it's visible as most of the house doesn't have curtains 😂
So. Another day, and I shall be glad to be rid of this week! I'm officially off work, but swapped my day off with Wednesday (to accommodate dentist trips and lunch with friend) and so am working today instead - there's stuff I want to get done before next week anyway.
First though - both bikes to the bike shop and we'll be driving past the cafe so I imagine we'll stop in there too.
Got friends coming at the weekend to help with the next stage of chicken run extension - making good progress on that at least!
Just having a bit of a spin on the Happy Wheel. I've not been consistent at all this month and it's not going particularly well... 🙄9 -
What do you mean "driving past the cafe"? Surely it is illegal to actually drive past a cafe without going in?
We don't get to see the moon from our flat as 3 sides are below ground level. It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.

Well, it's possible to drive past when it's shut... 😂 but we didn't drive past today.
Another frustrating mess of a day - bike shop, cafe, messing about with chicken medicine (mostly just watching the chicken not eating the medicine-laden treats). I can't wait for next week - the whole week somewhere else with no distractions! I imagine there will of course be !!!!!! about taking the car to the garage etc, but hopefully some peace!7 -
Ugh - what a day you have had Cheery - TGIF!!! - weekend tomorrow hooray!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Spoke too soon - vet rang and wants to see Beaky again, so we're going at 3pm on Monday 😕 which means leaving here about 1.15, so there's no earthly point going to Sheffield only to have to leave again at 12 (and also that would mean over 5 hours of driving in one day). SIGH.
Much as I would love to just send Mr Cheery, that's not going to happen right now. I might HAVE to insist he takes the car to the garage on Wednesday though. He'll have to walk 2 miles home but it will do him good. The alternative is dropping it off before 8am - he'll have to come with me anyway so I can drive him there and back before driving to Sheffield.
I don't want to sound complainy, but I confess I am sick of people and animals and inanimate objects needing me to do things right now, especially in work time. Yes I can be flexible, but I feel like it's getting a bit ridiculous - and of course the bit of my work that suffers isn't the immediate, putting out fires bit, it's the longer term career development stuff that'll get me that promotion. Or won't - at the rate I'm going I'm going to have nothing extra worthwhile to add to the form AGAIN by the spring 😢
Sigh.
Hey ho. I'll get over myself soon. I should probably be grateful I don't have children and elderly parents wanting a piece of me as well 😕10
