Cheery's country living adventure

Gosh greenbee, don't envy you that job!
To be fair it's very rare that I work a weekend. I think I've only done it for funding bid deadlines, which are important enough, completely immovable, and I basically do for the sake of my own career, rather than because I HAVE to. I realise it's different for other people, but my job doesn't rely on getting, or even applying for, funding, thank goodness. However if I want a promotion eventually, that DOES rely on things like this. So I kind of treat them as exceptional, almost like job applications - and that means I will do the last weekend before the deadline if I absolutely have to.
Still, didn't enjoy it, and will definitely be taking a different day off at some point soon!7 -
My DH had a trip to the US as Covid was hitting - just him and 2 others on the plane, 1 night in a hotel there (arrived in time to check in, eat and sleep) 4 hour meeting and then flight home on a Fri night... and then spent the weekend asleep - grrr. Thankfully he thinks that these will be a thing of the past and z00m type things will happen instead (although he is secretly still hoping for trips to the Australian office!)😁I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £205

I'm of two minds on the video call meetings over different time zones. While it's lovely to not have to travel and be able to stay in the comfort of my own home, my days seems to have stretched from 8 hours days in the office to 12-14 hour days to accommodate time zones & regional offices to both the east & west of the UK. It can be exhausting if I don't remember to exercise & nap in the middle of the day when I've got some quiet time. I'm not sure if I enjoy the flexibility or rue the day I stopped going into the office for a set day's work with meetings that happened in one time zone 😕4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Gosh, well all this discussion is all adding to my context for job hunting in the future! 😮 I'm fortunate that I only work with one group of people in another time zone, and even then meetings are pretty rare and organised at reasonable times of the working day for both parties!
Hectic morning so far. Printer was objecting so we were late for our booked indoor cafe trip (which was very cheerful, although they did charge me for a panini that we didn't have and not for something we did have - didn't get a receipt but I thought £13 sounded a bit steep for two lots of tea and toast... 😮
Then a very soggy drive to Sheffield, and now I'm sat in the car while Mr Cheery has a tooth out 🙄 Just bumped into a colleague in the supermarket which was nice 😊 Lots of work to be getting on with though!9 -
These meetings across time-zones are a real eye opener - when people talk about a global society, this is part of what they mean, I guess. The practicalities sound a bit horrendous, but the underlying principles sound wonderful
Cheery, I hope Mr Cheery feels okay after the tooth extraction, never a nice thing.2023: the year I get to buy a car6 -
Looking in to say 'Hi' and ask if I can join the chat?
I hope Mr Cheery's tooth extraction went as smoothly as possible, my OH is due to have a wisdom tooth out tomorrow (at the grand age of 70).It's not difficult!

Come on in and join the party HB! Although I confess it's not exactly much of a party - I've literally just finished work, after starting at 7.30am, with only a brief break to drive Mr Cheery on a 70 mile round trip to the dentist 😮
Fortunately his face is fine, or at least if it's not he's got the good sense not to complain as I don't have the headspace to take in anything else right now...
Colleague is carrying on with the editing for a bit, but I'm whacked and would rather stop now and start early again tomorrow. Getting there!11 -
Sleep well Cheery - rest is the best thing for you before the final push! (Sending healing vibes Mr. Cheery's way)

That's a long old day Cheery! I hope you managed a good sleep.
Glad that Mr Cheery's extraction went OK, my OH seems to have survived too (not saying whether or not that is a good thing . . .).It's not difficult!

Poor old Mr hb2!
well, it's finally in! Woo hoo! Very long day, but all done now and I've eaten far too many chocolate buttons and am about to start drinking 😂😂
Dentist for me tomorrow 🙄 but just for a clean, no extractions (there was meant to be one straight after the clean, but fortunately they've delayed it a couple of weeks).
Then I'm meeting a pal for lunch, and I've already put my out of office on so I'm doing NO work tomorrow - NONE!9
