Thank you all you lovely people xxx
Gosh it's been an eventful morning! 😮
A drains man turned up at 9am to discuss the possibility of moving the kitchen sink. Upshot is - no. Well, it's possible, but given it would be tapping into the clay toilet pipe which is currently encased in concrete, and we're not sure which direction it goes in under the floor... no. Easy decision. He also chased the guy who was meant to be ringing about emptying the septic tank.
Then I had a nice video chat with a pal from our greenhouses 😁
Then someone turned up to talk about kitchens... or at least measure. Looks like finishing the current mess might be too much for the actual kitchen fitters, but this guy might be able to coordinate a builder for us too if they can't do it.
I actually forgot to ask him loads of stuff because at that point the septic tank man rang to say they were 5 minutes away and could they come now 😮 I got all worried about them blocking the kitchen man in, and he ended up leaving in rather a hurry...
Still, he'd taken all the measurements, and I know what the process is, and I can always ring, or they're even doing showroom appointments.
And the septic tank is empty! A weight off my mind, as we've not done it since we moved in 3 years ago and it should really be done every year... it was very full and sludgy 😮 but after a few extra buckets of water has emptied fine, thank goodness.
Need a rest now!
So the rest of the day... I've taken the day off, but have one thing that didn't quite finish yesterday so that needs doing first. Then I think a day of checking where I'm up to with heating engineers, extra kitchen quotes etc, and getting up some more plsterboard...
Oh, and finances! Need to pay septic tank man, sort out the customs invoice I had which the seller has now agreed to pay some of, and various other bits.
Back later...8 -

Necessity sadly RT! 🙄
Just recorded an hour's worth of lectures that I just couldn't face doing last night - got to leave them to upload onto the system which will probably take another hour, yawn. And I MUST have some lunch!7 -
Good grief! And this is a day off? I foresee much cake, and a couple of pots of tea. Amazing stuff!2023: the year I get to buy a car6

Day off *WORK*, not a day off life! Not much chance of one of those at the minute 🙄
Anyway as it happens I've not got loads done this afternoon. We had an excursion for some necessary items, and a takeaway cuppa and cake sitting in the car. Home now, tea is in the oven, I'm waiting for a call from a friend who was meant to be ringing at 5.
No DIY done (yet) and also no sorting out of trades people either, oh dear! Still holding out hope for some of that (probably no DIY though).
Annoyingly, the lecture I recorded at lunchtime STILL hasn't uploaded!! More than 5 hours it's been going! (Please don't try to give me IT advice at this point - we just have a crap internet connection sometimes, and yes, I've done what I can about that too). Anyway, most annoying, as I need to send the link out to the students before the weekend, and can't do it til it's uploaded, so the computer has to stay on and I have to keep checking. How tiresome!
Hey ho. Might as well do some of the trader organising while waiting for friend to ring I suppose. Will give up on her at some point and jump in the bath!7 -

No advise - just lots of sympathy - our connection has a mind of it's own as well!
(A chuckle for you though - I almost pitched my work laptop out the upstairs window this afternoon when our IT chappy told me I had to fill in 20 separate forms instead of 1 form for 20 people!)4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Oh dear RT that does sound vexing! I confess I have more patience for that type of nonsense when work is paying me to deal with it than in my personal life 🙄😂
Yes, cake was indeed had - a white chocolate rocky road, which I think was at least 45%white chocolate and 45% custard creme biscuits 😂 excellent cake.
Bit more progress. Nice chat with supportive pal. Pie and roast parsnips for tea. Texted heating engineer - he'd said he could come to quote next Saturday, but is now saying he can't do any work til July, so it might not be worth the bother. Is this a standard tradesman thing?? That's four people this week who've told me they're booked til July! Is this a standard fobbing off, or does everyone actually have five months worth of radiator fittings etc booked in?! Who knows.
I've emailed someone else about the kitchen, and checked on my lists - will add a couple more tomorrow, and persist trying to find a heating person. It's just a series of small jobs and a new radiator so I suspect maybe it's just not worth their bother...
This is almost worst than comparing car insurance quotes!! 😮😮😂5 -
Oh! And I logged in to my old small pension online - just over £2k a year and about £6k lump sum - pretty sure that's different to the statement they sent the other day, but not sure that's high on my priority list right now given that I can't have it for 28 years anyway 😂8

Custard creams! I'd almost forgotten about them **gazes wistfully at the full-of-wheat custard cream packet on the Sainsbo website**
Anyway, slow-roasted parsnips are also a favourite here
And the *very* best of luck with those tradesmen, dear me!2023: the year I get to buy a car7
