Thanks all. Yes he's a lovely man, they all are, the whole family. I'm never quite sure what they make of us 😂 But this guy in particular always seems proper interested in what I'm up to, and remembers the old folk scything in his youth. They're so good to us - I always wish there was something we could do for them, but they're the kind of folk who always go round helping other people and it's quite difficult to know how to help them! Although I think to a certain extent they do try and do some things to make up for us letting them use our fields (but to me that doesn't feel like us DOING anything, so...)9

I know what you mean, about doing something rather than simply letting them use your fields ...Sometimes a photo goes down well, but thats more a family thing ... good luck with finding something with the right appeal.2023: the year I get to buy a car5

Well we have just been on a ludicrous wild goose chase looking for a bottle bank. We have a recycling collection here, but cos we're down such a tiny lane they don't send the normal lorry, so for some reason that I never quite worked out, they won't take glass.
We normally take it to the tip, but that's been shut since lockdown, so we've been shoving it in the garage. But now we're having the garage taken down... the tip is open but with a load of restrictions, so we thought we'd go to the supermarket...
Turns out there are apparently no bottle banks in the whole county. Which makes sense, because everyone (except us) has doorstep recycling...
Hey ho. Car is now entirely full of bottles, and looks like we'll have to go to the tip at some point anyway... 😂😂7 -
Oh god cheery what a palava! I hope you went home and had a cheery cup of tea. What’s on the agenda for this weekend? Is your favourite cafe open again? How are the chickens?6

Hi Missy 😊
I'm meeting a friend for a cuppa tomorrow, and then off to town to attempt to find something for Mr Cheery's birthday, then we've got friends coming in the afternoon who are going to camp in the garden.
I also need to get some more scything done! Weather is going to be nice so ideal time to get some hay dried, but not exactly ideal for cutting as it's so warm. Still, I'll try to get an hour or two done tonight, and maybe a bit before I see my friend tomorrow morning, and maybe our visitors will help with a bit of turning of the hay if I ask nicely...
Chickens are fine, thank you! Still chasing each other a bit, and someone keeps pulling feathers out of Bessie's back making her bleed (possibly in retaliation as she's doing the most pecking of the new ones at the minute). Sigh. You'd think having several acres to roam around would make them keep out of each others way, but apparently not - they knock about together then get annoyed at each other 😂8 -
Cheery - I have a cheeky question - can your council reduce your tax given that everyone in the county has glass pick up but you don't??? 😉
When our council switched collection companies, they spent 4 months 'forgetting' our glass. We reported it every time, but they still couldn't manage to pick it up though they did get the landlord's a 1 minute walk down the lane & the neighbours, a mere 20 seconds walk away. OH called up the council and asked for a 4 month council tax reduction for service that had not been provided (yes I did the nerdy thing & calculated how much - it was pittance) as well as a rebate for our time & petrol should we have to drive to the tip to get rid of it! I then followed up the request via e-mail via the online complaints naming the person he had spoken too & the history of the dates we'd been 'forgetten'...
...the next day the company miraculously made a special trip out to us & picked up all the glass, and has not 'forgotten' us since. We also received a personal call from the boss with an apology. As a bonus we now have the direct dial number of the lovely lady at the council who is in charge of collections should we run into any other 'oversights' 🤣🤣🤣4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)New projection - 14 YEARS 8 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 16 mths)Psst...I may have started a diary!11
