Thank you StrawberrySuze and TDQ, and happy new year to you too! :j :j

Thanks TDQ - I'm going to have a closer look at that magazines and memberships category as it does seem awfully high  I did have three magazine subscriptions on the go (all started with offers, like you, but then not cancelled). And it covers stuff like the Wildlife Trust, Dry Stone Walling Association, local Badger Group, Smallholders Association etc :o :rotfl:

Also covers professional memberships - work did pay for one this year (only because it got them a discount on a conference fee - they don't normally pay) - but there are only another two. One I'm going to cancel this year, the other I need to keep as I chair a committee (Personally I feel like THEY should pay ME but apparently that's not how it works :rotfl: ) but that's less than £100 so I'm not sure how the whole lot's added up to over £700

Hey ho, I guess that's why it's good to keep track! :money:

Anyway, we had a nice evening in, and I'm only up now to let the chicken ladies out. Very much feel like doing that then curling up with Call the Midwife and my knitting, but I'm sure I'd be better off going for a run :o :rotfl:

Well I door's go for a run and I'm glad I did as I felt all virtuous:rotfl: aaaaaand the fog rolled in later and it became quite grim and chilly for the rest of the day. Lots of knitting and a cafe trip and some more plottng and scheming and a nice restful evening :j

Oh and we treated ourselves today :o something we'd been talking about for years but had no particular partners to buy today - a new duvet, half price in the supermarket for £12 :money:

It's actually ridiculous, but we've never had a new one in the 14 years we've been together :o  obviously Mr Cheery had one when I moved in, then we rescued the one his sister had on her spare bed that she was about to chuck out for no good reason. Even the second of those is now flat and grim :o

So a new duvet it is, and it made me extremely cheerful when I put it on the bed and is making me even more cheerful now I'm in the bed :j :rotfl:

This is a year of fixing minor niggles, replacing broken tools that means a job is three times as vexing as it needs to be, and generally making things more cheerful (but without breaking the bank of course) :j

    Happy New Year Cheery!

I like your aim for the year - it sounds like you and Mr Cheery are very much like Mr MV and I. We rescue things others don't want and put up with minor niggles because something works otherwise... but it does build to a point where you think life would just be so much easier if a few things were sorted! I hope you manage to iron out these creases in your life this year :)

    You too Vix! :j

Been bimbling round the charity shops but not bought anything today. We did nip into a cafe though (£6.30) then some pals came round for an impromptu visit which is LOVELY :j :j

Treated myself to some quick cook pasta and a jar of sauce - at a grand total of £1.50 for two meals that is DEFINITELY something to repeat while we have no proper kitchen :j I never buy jars of pasta sauce, always feel like it's 'so easy' to make my own, but at the minute I don't even have a hob :o so just end up eating porridge all the time :o

We just poured boiling water on this pasta and left it for a few mins with a lid on, and threw a few veggies in the slow cooker with the sauce on high for a bit while friends were here, then scoffed it once they'd gone (we had offered them some, honest!) Most satisfactory!

Anyway I came in to report some spendy spends

I bought an overlocker :o been on about one for years, but always put it off cos of the cost, but it will let me make all kinds of clothes and household furnishings and Mr Cheery practically forced me to do it :rotfl:

It wasn't cheap  but I also bought some organic bamboo Jersey fabric and a load of stretch lace and am going to completely revamp my underwear draw :j :j :o :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ooh, Mr Cheery might like the underwear, as well as you! Organic bamboo fabric sounds fantastic, seriously, and I know from some past posts of yours that you have the level of sewing skills that can absolutely benefit from an overlocker. Respect :)

Not sure Mr Cheery would forgive me if that's what I sewed for him :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Or for me  :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Not impressed with their 'next day delivery' service - I ordered it at 10pm last night and it's not here! :rotfl: :rotfl: Hopefully tomorrow - and I can do some experimenting on some scraps while I wait for all my fabric and whatnot to arrive :j :j

Been eyeing up other things that need replacing too - I have a few VERY saggy vest tops that I wear underneath things but that are either too short, too long, too see-through, or with straps that fall off all the time. Definitely a quick and easy overlocker job, and I'll be able to make them just the right length, with just the right cleavage coverage under a top/dress (which is often what I use them for, but am forever hoiking them up) :j :j

Apparently it's pretty easy to make leggings (although I probably have enough of those right now). And I am in dire need of some new nightwear  Most of mine is old and saggy :o or the straps are too long or they've got holes in or whatever :o:o What a sorry state of affairs!

Today has been rather lived through a haze of tiredness. Didn't go to bed til 2am, didn't sleep well, up early for no good reason, and am about to sneak off for a nap. Pleased to report Rusty chicken seems to have made a good recovery and is demanding treats with everyone else :j :j

    Right - nap :o

    Morning MSE chums :hello:

    Back to work today

I'm quite organised actually - been trying to get back into flylady (ish) routines the last week or so and it's made a surprisingly large difference considering the few things I've been doing :j

We stocked up on those microwavable soup pots yesterday - we already had one but now have 7  Mr Cheery has filled several of them with stew and put them in the freezer - the idea being I can just take them out the night before for work :j

So I've got one of those and another one with my breakfast in, and some fruit and celery and I'm all set.

One significant mission this year is to avoid the vending machine and cafe at work. They need to be things that I just do NOT do  got a good couple of stone to lose and most of it has come from there :o

So from now on I'm sticking with what I take to work! I'm never actually hungry anyway - just either fed up or trying to avoid whatever it is I'm meant to be doing :o :rotfl:

Wish me luck! Leaving shortly and should be at work about 7, and then leaving work about 3.30. Might try to wait a bit for breakfast so lunch doesn't seem so far away!

...Back to work today  ...

    Me too!

Waking up this morning was painful - the sun didn't rise until I was already on the train! What is that all about anyway - should still be in bed:rotfl:

Easing in after two weeks off is going to be rough - 300 e-mails to look at ( I had a peek on the smartphone already.)

It's going to be a two coffee day!

Trying not to buy bf and lunch this month unless it's a working lunch so I've got a pack-up with me as well!

My sympathies! Only 2 coffees though?? I'm on my third cup of tea already! :rotfl:

Chins up with the emails. In my experience they're never as bad as they first feel. I 'only' had 111 - but the vast majority were circulars, dates for diary, notices of events etc. In my case only about 10 needed an answer. I've deleted and filed and replied to the easy ones all within an hour and a half. Would have replied to one of the others too but they want me to add my signature to a form, but have made the form so you can only edit in certain boxes (which doesn't include the signature box). Going to have to admit defeat with that one I think!

But that's just me :o I know other people get actual emails that need things doing :o :rotfl: I do too - but it's never as many as it first seems so here's hoping your inbox is like my inbox and not like some unwieldy fire breathing dragon
