Just checked, seems I have space for a whole 9 more messages so send away! :j :j
Hi ElmoR :hello: yes I too suspect we are in the same sectorurgh to imminent redundancies though, never fun
Strange and slightly traumatic day here. Can't remember if I said here but Beaky the chicken is poorly and we decided to take her to the vet this morning, as we'd tried everything we could and she seems to be getting worse rather than better.
Upshot is she seems to have some kind of egg issue. She's had injections of antibiotics and calcium and been checked over, and all we can do really is keep an eye on her, and keep her away from the others to make sure she isn't pushed out of the food or picked on.
She'll either pass whatever is stuck (fingers crossed), or she'll get worse and we'll lose herdoesn't seem to be much that can be done for a chicken in such circumstances
So she's been in the house with us, and is now asleep in the bathroomNormally my study is chicken hospital, but it's full of clothes etc and there's barely any room, so the bathroom is the next best option (and we do have a tiny separate toilet and shower that we can use - far too tiny and depressing and freezing for a poorly chicken though)
So fingers crossed for poor old Beaky if you don't mind. She seems partly ok, still pottering about and enthusiastic for treats, but definitely slow and droopy and best off in here out of the vile weather
And I couldn't even go to the vets with Mr Cheery as I had a hospital appointment myself. Was referred to a hospital in the opposite direction from anywhere I normally go, a good hour away  and actually it took longer, there was nowhere to park, and I arrived flustered and out of breath.
I'd gone to get a mole checked - and on arrival I was given a gown and told they wanted to do a full body check, which I had NOT been expecting  Ended up stood in my underwear twirling round and being inspected. I'm not normally bothered by medical exams but I confess I've felt rather traumatized by this oneI think because it was unexpected, and also in my view unnecessary - they did that before looking at the actual mole, which turned out to be (apparently) a seborrheic keratosis - or a type of mole you get when you get a bit older
Not a problem, and in my view no cause to inspect everywhere else, but hey ho.
Anyway, I suppose it's good to have a check every now and then (auto text thing just converted 'check' to 'cheese' :rotfl: ).
So now I can turn my attention back to sending healing vibes to Beaky...0 -
Aww bless little Beaky, fingers crossed here for her Cheery
I think that a body examination was a bit unnecessary at your hospital visit today but I guess they were looking to see if they could find any others. But, I am sure if there were any you would have brought that to their attention anyway whilst you were there. Poor you x Glad your mole is ok Cheery.
Good luck with laying the path by the way, not an easy job I'm sure. Fingers crossed for Beaky! Glad your mole was okay, although I definitely think the whole body thing was overkill!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

An unexpected full body inspection is unpleasant, no matter how helpful they intend to be
Blasted seborrheic keratosis (and I cut and pasted the s ... and k ... because I can't keep it in my head as to how to spell the 's' word
I've been offline till now, so I'm sorry about all the messages that turned up at your door :rotfl: what a life!

Hi all, and welcome Moneywhizz, nice to see you! :hello: Thanks for the prompt, I hadn't realised it had been so long
And I'm so sorry for leaving a cliffhanger about poor old Beaky  I won't make you wait any longer - I am delighted to tell you she has made a full recovery and is back out with the main flock :j :j
Seemed touch and go there for a while though  She went even more downhill after I was last in here and I kept expecting to find her dead each morningbut we kept her in our house for 11 nights  first in the bathroom, and when that just became too mad we made a hospital wing in the corner of the building site kitchen.
She had a bath with epsom salts and a gentle little massage each day (sometimes twice), extra calcium added to food, plenty of tempting treats (she stopped eating for a day or two so we were doing anything we could to tempt her back).
She got quieter and slower and we feared the worstbut then one morning she'd laid, not an egg, but a bit of rubbery *stuff*, not even very much, only about the size of a cheesy Wotsit :rotfl: but she very definitely picked up after that, slowly at first, building up her strength, but then finally it got quite annoying having her in the house which I've found is the perfect sign of a chicken being well enough to go back out :rotfl:
Hooray I say! :j
In other news... feeling quite festive having done TWO festive band performances this week. Finished work (although I have an application to put in for a kind of extra position which has a deadline of 30th - kind of part of my job but a bit of a side responsibility for an outside organisation - will help a great deal with next promotion application if I get it though). Must remember in the Christmas flurry!
Nearly got all my Christmas presents :j Just a couple left. Only wrapped a few, and written precisely NO cards:rotfl: Oh dear. Presents that need posting are clearly not going to get there on time either
Going to see Mr Cheery's family tomorrow and then got friends visiting on Monday so that's a nice incentive to tidy up
Anyway, expect to hear more from me - I do love the Christmas holidays for doing a bit of plotting and scheming for the year ahead :j0 -
Oh and I meant to say - the reason I haven't been in is because I've been experimenting with leaving my phone downstairs when I go to bed, and not using it while I'm at work
All good things but it's proper played havoc with my forum posting! :rotfl:
