So. Decision (kind of :rotfl: ) made. Upstairs I'm just going to skim over what's there, repair holes etc.
Downstairs is a bit of a mess. One internal wall is plasterboard with several layers of ancient paper - I'm just going to put another layer of plasterboard and normal plaster over that.
One bit of wall and the 'new' chimney repair is very flat and has quite a lot of pipes and plugs etc - I'm going to plasterboard that bit.
Two sections have ancient cracking lime plaster really thick directly over the stone. I'm going to chip off what's not properly attached, and assess what's left - will likely replace that with lime plaster.
There's one bit of other wall that's already got normal plaster on, but it's quite uneven.
What a mess!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
I'm thinking lime plaster the bits that are directly onto stone, but don't go out of the way to remove normal existing plaster. That will give *some* breathability without meaning the whole thing will take months
And depending on the finish (despite what I just said about mixing types above) I might take the top coat of lime plaster over everything to make it all look the same. But we'll assess that when we get to it.
Not sure how it's ended up so different - but I suppose it WAS two separate rooms, and half of one of them was behind cladding, so it's inevitable that this type of thing will happen :rotfl:0 -
Wow! I love the way you've analysed it and what you need to do as a result. Kudos, Cheery, many kudos!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Ha, thanks. Not sure it'll work out exactly as planned but we'll see!
Made a start on 'the easy bit' upstairs last night. Of course these things are never simple, are they??:rotfl: Painted PVA on one wall, realised I didn't have the metal things you need to do corners, so that'll have to wait.
In the meantime started scraping the loose bits of textured paint off another wall - turns out quite a lot of the plaster is loose too so ended up just spending the whole evening scraping that off, and there's plenty still left to do!
Mr Cheery is going to the DIY shop on his travels today so will get the required equipment.
In the meantime I have plenty to do today
- tidying up
- more scraping of plaster
- meeting a friend for lunch and we might go for a walk (although it's p*sling down - again - so we'll see)
Anyway, I really popped in to report some good matched betting progress for those of you who may have been put off by my recent exploits:eek:
Yesterday I made £20 - a few casino small losses, yes, but then I won £25 on one game which bumped things back k up nicely to the £20 total.
This morning I went to check for a free bet from yesterday. I'd done one of these 'choose your own bet'things that you can't lay - bet £5 and £5 free bet if it loses. Could ted myself as £5 down the other day when I put it on - but it didn't lose, it won! So £12 up :money:
And then I just won just over £12 for another casino game this morning so already £25 up for the day :money: and my £300 target for the month is looking achievable :money:
My £500 is still rather unachievable, barring a big win, but still :rotfl:0 -
Oooh - hooray!
Got a notification of a new welcome offer that I hadn't done - so did that and the free bets credited instantly, meaning I was another £21 odd up, which means that I'm currently at:
£46 today
£300 November
£4514 in total
:money:
VERY pleased with that, makes up nicely for my recent crappy run :rotfl: :rotfl:
Anyway, going to stop there for this morning - the next things on the list are all casino offers and it's quite likely I might go back down again so I'd rather stop while I was ahead (and also I need to do some washing up and get ready to go out)0 -
So, ended up doing a little bit more and ending today at...
£50 up today
£305 up in November
£4519 up overall
:money:
Still aiming to get to £5100 by the end of the year as that's the amount we paid for the original building work (not counting the extra windows and things that turned up). Will feel extremely good to have that covered!
But no more tonight, tired now (and I've started drinking - and drinking and online gambling sites do NOT mix   )0 -
Afternoon MSE chums :hello:
Well, after all my moping about MB last week I made £98 yesterday!! :money: no big wins, just £2.60 on one slot game, £14on another, then ended the evening with £29 on one site and a rather surprising £43 on another!
Chuffed with that :j :j so I've finally topped £4600 now - and hoping for another day like yesterday so I can end the month on a nice high note!
Gosh it's cold today  Heavy frost this morning, and the lanes were icy when I went for a walk before breakfast. Had to leave the chickens in the run because it was such thick fog
Had a cosy cuppa in the cafe (and got one free :money: ) but someone got in there first and nicked our favourite seat!! :rotfl: Most displeased :rotfl:
Then a quick nip to the charity shop (bought a fleece for £3) and then the DIY shop for some ballast - Mr Cheery is making concrete and I'm fixing the path to the door
Spent much of yesterday doing the path and it was SO lovely to be outside and it not be raining!! :j Chickens were a right menace, getting in the way :rotfl: When we moved there was no path to the door, you had to walk over the grass, which very rapidly became a quagmire  so I "temporarily" threw down some old roofing stones - and they're still there :rotfl:
Anyway, dug them out yesterday and gosh I ache today  managed to get two new ones laid properly (which of course means actually digging out the grass/mud and laying ballast and sand and leveling etc) - hoping to do the rest today but just working up to it as it is SO COLD
Still, at least the sun has come out now and the fog has lifted. Chickens are out sunning themselves against a wall by the house and I've just sat down with a cuppa and Country Living magazine :j Feels special cos I cancelled my subscription and am not sure when they'll stop sending them:rotfl:

Your MB sounds better Cheery
I'm up to about £300, made a couple of slight errors but one resulted in a win of £140 ^:j funnily enough I was drinking wine at the time....

"Courage doesn’t always roar, sometimes it’s the quiet voice at the end of the day whispering ‘I'll try again tomorrow'0 -
Ooh, excellent work Suze! :j :j Not on your mistake though  at least it went in your favour!
Just had a right old palaver
Trying to buy a new car, and for various reasons Mr Cheery prefers to buy from a private seller rather than a dealer. Went to test drive one the other day, tried to get one day insurance (as we've always done before) and it wouldn't go through, kept saying "something in the details you entered" meant they couldn't quote (although actually they had quoted, just wouldn't let me pay).
Anyway, managed to get the car added temporarily onto our existing car insurance. Ended up not buying it anyway.
Going to see another one tomorrow. Tried to add onto current insurance as we had done last week with the other one - turns out they don't cover private test drives  apparently we WERE covered as they had agreed to cover and sent us a letter saying so - but the bloke who agreed shouldn't have done - so they won't cover this one
Back to temp insurance place - still won't quote.
Tried two other places, both wouldn't let me insure a car with market value of under £1500  This one is for sale for £1250 which I assume would invalidate the insurance should anything happen...
For goodness sake!
Anyway, after trying various permutations of me and Mr Cheery, I finally found somewhere that would do it, thank goodness  Excess is more than the main place would have been, and I had to give the full name and address of the current owner (which meant ringing him back to ask his surname) but at least we can actually get home now. Bloody thing.
Have emailed the initial day insurance people (who we've had through before) to ask them to tell me what the issue is. Assume it's nothing to do with the actual car as they wouldn't quote for the other one either, and we HAVE managed to insure this car through someone else!
What a blithering palaver! Need a stiff drink now :eek:0 -
Anyway, done the RAC 2nd hand vehicle check (all fine), MOTs all fine, had two long chats with the bloke on the phone (a nice polite old gentleman who sounds FAR more fastidious than us re servicing and paperwork and seems exactly the sort of fussy person we'd want to buy a car from :rotfl: )
Rang up yesterday and someone else was going to see it - apparently he hadn't sorted day insurance but was going to backdate his own insurance or some such nonsense (there was a lot of rambling) but discovered that he couldn't do it, so had to go home again (and apparently asked for a lift back to the train station!)
Hmm. All sounds rather ludicrous but we can't see a thing wrong with the car, full service history, no MOT advisories even, done less than 100k miles, guy himself seems nice and plausible (as far as we can tell!) so we're going to see it anyway - fingers crossed yesterday's non-buyer was just an idiot rather than the seller being suspicious
We were disappointed yesterday when it looked like we wouldm't get it so no point in NOT going really...
Fingers crossed!0 -
Good luck with that, Cheery, I hope it works out the way you want it. And well done on the m.b.ing, thats a nice big chunk.
And well done on the path laying - you're making leaps and bounds2023: the year I get to buy a car0
